Jut had the car diagnosed. Its the main light relay box thats broke.but no one seems to know which box this is. does any one know, as im totally stuck now.

Thanks

Emma

don't know where it is, but there are some relays above the glove box, i think central locking and indicator and maybe one more. They should just pull out so you could always try pulling them out one at a time and see what stops working.

Also look behind the panel at the side of the steering wheel and in the fust box under the bonnet.

open the cover to the main fuse box then remove the fuse box nuts i think there are only 2

look at the back of the fusebox and there are the relays you cant access them from the front if you are really confused by this i will be kind and try and take a pic for u later

Ive been in the main fuse box so has the auto electrician. Seriously there is more than 2 boxes and no one seems to know which one it is and apparently if u take them out, u cant put them back in as it fuses them or something. There are diffrent types of pins that connect them. If i replace them all im looking at nearly £70. Is it worth going to the main dealer and asking this or will i have to go through them. There is absolutely nothing in the manual.

Thanks

Emma

i will have a look in my offical fiat workshop book tonight and scan it in once i have fitted andy's suspension

If you can't take them out and put them back in, then how do you fit a new one?

I think someone is telling you porkies......

Once u take the old one out it doesnt work again. it cant be re-used.

i can't believe a relay wouldn't work just because it was taken out and put back in?

Well according to this electrician. It fuses it or something, he said he had the same problem with other relay boxes. Im not trying it to find out. this car costs me enough. lol

Emma

I often test ones that I want to find out if they work, by taking mine out and trying the unknown one. (They have to match exactly, of course!)
But I've never had one 'fuse'? on me in over 50 years!:)

Think i will try and find out which one it is myself(dunno where to start though). And do it myself. Everyone i have phoned or seen today, either dont want to know or didnt know what they were talking bout. Evertime somthing goes wrong with this car no one seems to know. Hmmm. strange.

fiat should be able to help you, but it will cost. I'm suprised auto electricians cant help, i know a good one in doncaster, but perhaps a bit of a trek for you. you coming to any meets, I'm sure someone could bring enough kit to test them.

From my haynes;

"The main relays are located behind the facia on the drivers side. The central locking and sunroof relays are behind the glovebox. On 1998 on models additional relays for the ac, headlight washers and electric cooling fans are located infront of the battery in the left hand front corner of the engine compartment. If a circuit or system controlled by a relay develops a fault and the relay is suspect, operate the system. If the relay is functioning it should be possible to hear a click as it energises. If this is the case the relay is not at fault. If the click is not heard then either the relay is faulty or the or the wiring supplying it is. Testing is by substitution, be careful as some relays look the same but do not work the same. To replace a relay ensure the circuit is off, pull hte old relay out and push the new one in."

The headlight fuses are in the main fusebox, fuse 5, 6, 7 & 8 and should all be 10amp. The main fusebox should be the one below and to the right of the steering wheel.

Hope thats useful

I have took the full beam fuses out. Altough my normal lights are stuck on now. hopefully if i just try trial and error i may be able to work it out.

thanks guys.

If the lights are stuck on then it could well be a stalk problem.

Relays usually fail off rather than on.

i reckon itd a stalk problem too cos they go wrong more often than relays

jiggle and bash the stalk and see if it affects the the lights

if u had told me on the weekend at lozzes i would have had a look for u
