General ref car cutting out and a heater question

hi all sorted the cutting out problem(hopefully)..bought new ht leads this morning,fitted them and the car hasnt cut out on me since..i have a question if anyone can help...here goes.

the heater only works on number 4...1..2..and 3 dont work. im getting a new heater fan speed resistor as i believe this maybe the problem..could someone please point me in the right direction as to were it is and is it a easy job.is their any pics anywere in the forum...oh my car is a punto 1.2 8valve active sport on a 03 plate.thank you so much for all the help guys.

It'll be very near the fan motor.

Yup sounds like a dead resistor pack there my friend!

Anyway!

As fingers said its right at the side of the fan
As the fan actually cools the resistor - as it gets stupidly hot

If you look at the fan just to the right - is a 4 or 5 wire connector
Wiggle that - if the fan kicks into life suddenly - i bet its melted its connector
Not uncommon im affraid
Anyway - its either a 7 or 8mm hex or a phillips, it varys alot of car to car

it simply then pulls out

A scrappy one wont cost the earth tho

i paid i think it was £3 for 1

thanks for both replys guys,when i bought the car 2 months ago it was neglected..the ariel housing was ripped of...the boot struts were leaking so boot wouldnt stay open...the alloys had the centre caps missing...left wing mirror cracked...no parcel shelf...anyway i looked on ebay and found a punto breaker right on my doorstep..about 1/3 of a mile from my home...ive bought those parts and corrected the car..looks 100% better all beit it has a few minor scrapes and a few little bumps..but hey its an old car..got the parts very cheap..boot struts..£5 for pair....parcel shelf..£10...wing mirror..£5...alloy centre caps..£5.they go for £17 each on ebay..ariel mount including ariel itself..£5. if anybody want the address for parts or his ebay id...just inbox me...very cheap.

he's cheap - a range of cars to play with too!

There is always a Punto pretty much down there - mk1 and mk2's

no Mk2b's yet - but there still a little too new...
