I recently changed the dash cluster due to problems with fuel gauge and tripometer.

Now the red light in the middle with "Stop" on it flashes all the time I am driving. It's quite annoying for one, but what is it supposed to mean? Could the old unit have had a fault which masked the light coming on, or could the new (secondhand) unit be broken in some way?

Does any one know some of the things that can cause this light to flash, or a way of turning it off?

Anyone know how to reset the "STOP" light on the dash? Is it related to service intervals or just a general catchall for engine faults?

Any help appreciated,

Rob.

Depending on what year your Scudo is, the new cluster may need proxy alignment with the Body Computer. This would need to be done with a Fiat Examiner dignostic machine. I believe they will only do it if the new cluster has an equal or lower mileage than recorded in your BC.

it's a 2002 jtd

The mileage is higher on the "new" cluster.

So is it the mismatch that is causing the flashing red light, or could it be something else. Do I need to take it to my fiat dealer (expensive & PITB)? Would my small independent have the required machinery? I don't do huge mileages, so I could wait until my next service.

Proxy alignment seems to be making the ECU and the dash instruments talk to each other instead of pointing out errors such as discrepancies in mileage.

However, a google search of this term suggests that the mileage itself will flash in these circumstances, not the big red flashing stop sign (which is getting increasingly irritating BTW).

Does anyone know what sorts of things cause the big red flashing stop sign to be activated. I am assuming it will be an engine fault (though the van drives OK). I have been wondering if it was a bit down on power and have only been getting 40mpg, but since it has always been like this am not sure this is a fault. I have towed a caravan recently and found there are times when 3rd gear has been needed on the motorway, it should be more powerful than this I think.
