Hi

I have a 2002 Punto & when I went to go out yesterday the red steering wheel came on & the powered steering wouldn't work.

I have been out to try it today & it's working ok now.

Is it possible that the ECU that is connected to the motor can reset itself or is there maybe an ongoing problem I have????

easson,

Welcome to the forum!

Intermittent problems are not uncommon, sometimes associated with poor connections, other times leading to failure that requires a replacement column. Best just to monitor the situation (in other words, unless the light is coming on often, don't fret).

I had this problem a while ago, except my light came on but the steering worked the same.
Had my battery checked, and was told it was alright. But seemed to go away.
Lots of places to free battery checks. Get one done on your car to see what that tells you and go from there.

Mine seems to have sorted itself out. Do you do lots of short journeys or long journeys normally ? If your only using it for short periods of time the battery is probably not being given enough time to charge sufficiently, thus the power steering problem.

Maybe try using (borrowing) a battery charger and giving it a juice up to full charge and see if that cures it.
