Is a red key needed on a 1996 1.4sx Bravo?
If so what cases would this be needed?

I have 2 blue keys only am i going to be okay?
Where could problems come in????

Thanks all

from all what ive read on here...if you havnt got a RED key with your car, U really shouldnt have bought it..

Have u already bought it? or are thinking to ?

Already got it london_boy.
Have heard that as long as all keys arent lost it is fine, as was told the red is used to cut a new key from?
What do you think? Will i be okay with 2 blue ones??

oh ok I see, erm personally I think it taking a BIG risk. Ive heard and seen cases whereby the red key was needed, for some sort of repair etc etc, and Fiat quote anywhere between £700-£1000+! to replace.

When I bought my bravo, I had no idea about the red key thing...then luckily before I went to buy it I came across this site and was able to check for a red key!

In all honesty you could be one of those people that never has a problem and may never need the use of the RED key...but then again you mite be

I know this dont really help tho :p

Fingers crossed i dont need one then!!
Cars are a major worry! Nightmare recently

Thanks

hmm yeh, I know wot u mean about cars and nightmares!! What car did u get out of curiosity ?

your red key is progammed to the ecu so if you get a problem with it you just use your red key to reset it back to factory (i think) if you ever get a major problem with it you would have to take it to fiat and they would sort it with the assist of the red key but seen as you dont have one i've got my fingers crossed for u m8

Red Key

I see, so the code on the red key can reset the ecu.
The blue keys have the code stored in also, so unless the ecu dies i should be okay...

I have a '96 Bravo1.4 sx, it only has 48k and full service history. Was owned by an elderly couple before me, hence the missing key!
Just needs some tlc that they didnt give it!

Damn
If anyone has other tips, please let me know!

If you loose a blue key you can reprogram a new new genuine blue key using the red key from the cars ignition.

Like mentioned above always to have the red key, better to be safe than sorry.

Is it so?

I think the blue key contains only some hardware and a unique id-number, which it transmits encoded when inserted in an electromagnetic field. The id-number of the new blue key is then fed into the ECU with the aid of the red key.

The blue key just has an id-number, and it doesn't matter whether there is somewhere another key with the same id-number, unless the key holder tries to start your Fiat. If the number is long enough, the risk will be very small.

the red key is used to rewrite keys/delete keys and for the immobiliser, im pretty sure cause i test the diagnostic software for honda, and the red key is used for rewriting keys there.

so i imagine its the same :\
