I'm bracing myself for the horrible canned laughter they used in the series' after series 6 :p

I loved series 1-6, but those after were horrible. Filled with awful out of character traits and terrible jokes that didn't show the quirkiness and inventiveness of the previous series. I hope this isn't going to be like that, but the last few series they showed were feckin awful. Plus, Kochanski wasn't Scottish ala Claire Grogan of the first series.

Anyway though, fingers crossed it'll be a return back to form. I guess this could be how the failed attempt to make a movie could finally be brought to life :D

I made the immortal mistake of trying to read the book first...couldnt be interesting to see the new ep!

After Series 6 the original partners-in-crime that wrote it split and one of them mustered on to complete the series...hence the slight change.

I reckon it'll be a belter...but I'm on holiday and I hope to god where we are at has freeview so I can watch Dave!!!

All I can say is, damn, that was horrendous. No audience laughter, dodgy camera views as they'd suddenly decided to rap-around sets and terrible, awful jokes. And I mean jokes that were worse than the previous rubbish jokes. In seasons 1-6, many of the jokes were pretty lame, but in a way that made them brilliant. Now though, they're just plain lame all over. It's so depressing that this reincarnation has "fail" written all over it

Dave then compounded it by having an episode from season 6 then 5(?) then 7 afterward, a sequence that made no sense whatsoever. Damn you Dave, damn you and your witty banter all to hell :furious:

Of course, this is just my opinion. I'm sure some people liked it

I wasn't impressed, I so wanted to laugh but couldn't find a joke worth laughing at. I only watched the new so couldn't remember, did there used to be audience/canned laughter? Even the set seemed ... quiet. Like the actors weren't particularly having fun.

Although, one thing I did laugh at (now that I remember it) was the new girl reciting how she planned to get Lister back to Earth - she didn't miss a beat!

Yeah, did find that bit rather well done. Nice actress too ;)

They only used actual canned laughter on series 7 iirc, the rest were done or at least shown in front of a live studio audience and the laughter track obtained from that was added to the sound mix later.

I just think it hasn't been very well executed, though the other 2 parts may well prove me wrong. I was bracing myself for it to be bad anyway, so vaguely knew what was coming. But still, was hoping for something a little better now that both Grant and Naylor are writing together again.

the whole 3 episodes and the only part i liked was lister on the typewriter thats all im saying :)

I thought it actually got a bit better as the episodes went on. I think the third part was probably the best really. I still say it was better in series 1-6, better writing and the like.

Plus I hate CGI in many sci-fi things. Can understand why they use it, but I love the models and effect they have on shots.
