Technical Recon box problems....

HI, having a prob or two with my gearbox in my sei... Its a standard 1.1 manual 5 speed sporting box that has been recently re-conned.... Its fitted to a mpi 85 1.2 block.

The gears are a dream, apart from 2nd which sometimes grinds... well grinds when you do anything but drive it like a granny... grinds changing up from 1st, and also down from 3rd.

Also have issues with 5th gear which is beginning to be hard to get. It doesnt grind, just feels like it is impossible to change into at times, meaning im sometimes catching 3rd...

All the other gears are fine, and when its working the gears are really easy to get in and really smooth...

Im not a mechanic but was thinking to check the gear oil level.... other than that im stumped....

any ideas?

Check the oil level, fitting of the cables. Might be worthwhile trying the gear oil FIAT sell (as some boxes seem to prefer that).

Failing that, take it back to the reconditioner.

Is this the one you had difficulties with the cables? Make sure the brackets are correctly positioned, particularly the one for left and right, and make sure the cable outers are firmly mounted.

nope, its a new one lol. the previous one was down to a loose mount.. the bolt that held the cable in place had loosened itself off. That cinq's working, its the sei im havin trouble with now lol
