Hi,

I bought a 1.4 Idea (petrol) from an independent 3 weeks ago and it has started giving me problem. It is flashes "Engine failure" on startup and the service light is always turned on.

I had an AA guy come home today to replace the battery and he used the diagnostic cable to find out the errors. One error was about 'throttle valve learn' and the other was about the 'immobilizer'. The later one he suggested might have been due to the low battery, while the former could have been an old one. He cleared the errors, restarted the car and the service light was gone. Unfortunately, after he had left I switched on the car and the 'engine failure' sign on the dashboard came back.

I did not record the error codes which he had come up on the computer, so was wondering if anybody knows what they might be related to. Also, i am planning to buy the diagnostic cable to use with fiatecuscan software but not sure which cable i need.

Also, do i need any code specific to my car for the fiatecuscan software?

Thanks

~I'd talk to the people you bought it from... Get them to put it right...

Right, I took it back to the garage and the error code the car reporting is P1688. It is some sort of throttle relearn. The chap went on to do some quick reset but it didnt clear the error. He is going to do a longer reset which apparently takes an hour and a half. Hopefully, that will sort the problem.

Paid a visit to the garage after he had done the 'long reset'. The service light he mentioned had switched off before he finished the reset. I turned the ignition on, held for a minute, started the engine and boom! service light came back on. He is now saying it needs to goto fiat garage since they dont have the full software. Fingers crossed?

how did it go..??,

bad sensor / connection..??,

Still not fixed. The garage replaced the throttle body, but still the error persisted. Now, they think ECU is bad and going to replace it.

fingers crossed.
