Just got a text saying my 500 (2011) needs to be recalled. It doesn't say why though but a quick Google points to the coolant.

Would this explain why my air-con failed about 11 months in? And why it always smells like it's burning when I finish a long drive. Even though the garage said that's normal.

Coolant is not air con, so no to that.

Smelling like it is burning? Well, it is burning technically but it shouldn't smell worse than any other car. "They all do that, Sir." is the first hiding place for a bad service manager and should not be accepted at face value.

What does your temperature display say?

I just had a phone call to say that there is a recall on my 2012 500 :(

The lady mentioned that 2 new coils had to be fitted and it wouldnt take any longer than an hour.

Anyone else had this and know anymore about the issue?

Interesting on the coils,

I have started to get some hesitancy in acceleration (Revs dip badly when pulling away), so called the dealership to see if mine was affected by the coils recall.

Yes it is, Nice of them to let me know ;0( Not!

Oh well another trip in to sort that out.

This is making me concerned about my car, might have to ring the dealer and ask because mine seems quite hesitant on revs most of the time, especially when first pulling away (n)

my service centre told me today about the coil pack recall which they are doing on friday along with replacing the electric door mirror which has packed up

Hi, just rang my stealer (who is usually pretty good) and asked if there was a recall on my TA and my wifes TA, they said there is one on mine but not the wifes, I'm assuming because hers is 8 wks newer (both 12 plates), they said not urgent but whenever I get time.... I wonder when they were going to tell me if I hadn't rang! big thumbs up FF.

Being as it wasn't a safety recall, I suspect they would have done it when they got to you on the list. They can't call at the same time and then get all the work done at the same time.

It would also look bad if someone was visiting a Fiat dealer looking to buy the 500 and seeing 100 Fiat 500's parked at the service center next to the dealer waiting for repairs!

When mine failed I got all the errors up and I was only able to accelerate to about 10mph (foot to the floor), at a snails pace. Which got me home in slow traffic through town, after 5/10 mins of driving the revs would often kick in again and I could drive normally. It failed 2 times out of 3 engine starts.
Definately get it fixed before it becomes the problem I had :D

Its always the risk when you get new production engine models out on the road and you are amongst the first to buy them. Teething problems! I heard the VW TSI engines have had big issues which is why now VW's new range only uses turbochargers instead of the turbo + supercharger twincharger combo. We have a Golf TSI 160 twincharged DSG 7 but since its leased we do not worry about it creating problems as it will not cost us anything and we don't keep the car long term.

Except coil on plug ignition is not new, or 'untested'. Fact is, suppliers (dunno who makes them - could be bremi? or bosch?) cock up and make crap parts occasionally. Unfortunately FIAT take the rap for this, but it's not really their fault.

Exactly. **** happens and as long as it's made good and no one gets hurt, what's the problem? :)

Well Mine is in for its recall work today.

Also having a replacement rear rubber seal between the boot and roof as it came away some time ago, investigation for a knocking from the NS Driveshaft under acceleration, and as it is at 17100 Miles they twisted my arm into getting the 18k service done while it was in there.

Some Friendly negotiation got the 18k service down from £249 inc VAT (500c Twinair). Which was not bad as other dealers had quoted £269 inc VAT, to a final price of £169 inc VAT.

Missing the little yellow thing already. Seeing a White Pop on the driveway just does not seem right!!! :D

My service centre have these on back order so couldn't get them swapped with mirror replacement which was a shame, that said waiting to see how long before Hartwells in Abindgon get in touch over this, he'll will prob freeze over
