Rear wheel bearing fault?

Hi, thanks for the info on changing the Rear wheel bearings on other threads. I did mine ( Marea JTD ). all seemed ok and straight forward. However it has leaked grease from the back seal - the local garage said heat must be causing it if the grease is coming out-and its black. Have only done a couple thou miles if that since fitting. I'm sure it was torque up correctly - my wrench only goes to 220 - so i gave it another 1/4 inch or so to make up the manual's figure of 280 or thereabouts. Only other thing, was i dont know what the manual was on about when it said use an allen key to hold the stub axle- i tightened it against the weight of the car/ suspension. Can anyone advise if they've had this same bearing problem, or have i done something wrong? many thanks.
