Hi, got a 2019 Auto trail motorhome, based on the Fiat Ducato. It has the 5 inch touch screen multimedia screen which shows the rear view camera when in reverse gear. Is there any way to show this camera when driving forward?

Not sure why you'd want to , but as it stands now it senses reverse gear (with a switch in the gear select mechanism), but with that also comes the reverse light ....
So you'd have to disentangle one from each other....as you'd still need reverse light functionality.

One some vehicles all this sensing is done directly with the reverse light switch (so it would be easy to split off sense and reverse light) and a camera/reverse sense wire is simply attached to that, on a CANBUS vehicle reverse is drawn into the system and the head unit will figuire it out via CANBUS.. (so might not as easy at all)

Thanks for your quick reply, thought it would be handy to be able to use camera as a rear view mirror, as I have no view through the motorhome.
If it will not be easy or create other problems, then I may just leave it as it is.
Would be handy if you could select the camera from the head unit as well as work automatically when in reverse, oh well 😢

I’ve got an aftermarket touch screen which activates with reverse but can be powered up to be on as a rear view mirror whilst travelling which I often do. I find it useful when I lose sight of a smaller vehicle in my side mirrors - tailgaters are everywhere these days - Not sure why your potential reasoning was misunderstood but hey ho…

Mine is activated by pressing the power button. I wired it up that way. Has yours got a power on button on the screen?

I got mine from RevCamUK - they sell screens as replacements for your factory fit unit and they’ve got wiring instructions on their website that may assist in case you can adapt your existing setup.

Member @Reg 65 has wired his reversing camera to a separate switch. He may be able to advise.

I am currently fitting a reversing camera to my x244 IH Tio R PVC, which has no rear doors, and hence no rear window demisting. I opted to follow Reg 65's idea and chose to use the refused RH rear demisting supply for the camera, as the only the mirror demisting is used.
