Right just a quick one,

might be me just being picky but the rear torsion beam suspension on the stilo, its just that if i measure from the edge of my wheel to the edge of my wheel arch on the left hand side its about a 3mm gap between them

yet on the right hand side its about 10mm between them, as if the entire rear swinging arm is over to the left!,,,, is it adjustable?? to centre it or is it something done by 4 wheel tracking??

It's how it relates to the chassis that matters not the body and I'm pretty sure there's no adjustment anyway.

There's a huge load on the torsion beam when cornering under power so I'm sure you'd get to know about it if there was a problem (y)

cheers argo!
just taken a few pics for you to see.. its 10mm max difference to be honest

Mine have been changed - so will go and do the paper test when it stops raining......
Interestingly enough after 65k miles they were in good nick - although the boys at my local garage reckoned they would have been fine for another 40k they commented that the rear beam is much stiffer in place than before with the changed bushes.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :chin:

cheers for that!, i was always wondering if it has too much end float on it.. it never knocks or anything, just that sometimes it looks worse than others

what incident?

I decked 2 wheels and a front suspension strut.., have a look in leisure lounge any chance of anyone just mesuring the distances for me.......... please????

im at cross roads at the moment,, i dont want to send an agreement off for a new set of wheels until i know the rear subframe is ok but it a cache 22 because i need the car for work!!... can someone please just go measure the distances on their stilo!

thanks will be given!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Steely, there is nothing to worry about wit that difference 90% of cars have that same gap the wheels (usually on the left side) are closer to the arch then the other side every car i have ever owned has been like that, i dont have a stilo but both my bravos and my van are like that.

cheers bandido! been banging my head against a brick wal all day!, :p the wheel runs dead and true , i thought it was possibly like that from new but i wasnt sure... and i didnt want to outlay money for another set of rims if the subframe was damaged.. it drives spot on.. cant fault it...

cheers for that! :) appreciated!

Ben, just reading up in leisure lounge and that was one hell of a mess you made of one of your wheels.

To finish it off, in your position, I'd take the car for a full 4 wheel alignment check (if you haven't already). If it checks out close to normal then you'll know for certain your chassis isn't distorted. Some places charge less than £15 (y)

yeah i know :( luckily the front shocker took most of the brunt of the knock, as you can see,, the rear wheel just brushed it, as soon as the new rims are on ive arranged for a heathcheck on the car at fiat, plus a 4 wheel setup on tracking,

one thing i remember when fitting the yakuza alloys first off was asking about the clearance between the rear arch inside walls and the distance between that and the tyre wall, which was 10mm, i did a check tonight and it is still the same 10mm, so it looks like its fine, but i will still get it checked for peace of mind, end of the day if it needs a new rear subframe, then a new rear subframe it is, pain in the arse thing is ive just seen a new one sell on ebay for 70 quid

cheers for the advice!

Right, and update.. ive done some research and found that:

The stilos rear subframe is adjustable up to 12 mm horizontal throw... purely just by the mounting points to the chassis,... undone 8 bolts and shifted the rear beam 7mm to the right... and running far straighter than ever...

will get some pics up soon..
