Ok, firstly i was wondering if reverse lights are compulsory to have on a car?

Secondly, is the rear foglight compulsory to have on the car?

If i removed one of the above would my car still pass its MOT and be road legal?

Rear foglight i can understand but what about reverse light?

How do you tell when someone is about to reverse out of a parking place?

Anon so is it not compulsory to have them fitted. As you answered No and No to my questions.

Ask Dave or Paul R.

Think Daves hgt does not have reverse light

i thought you had t ohave reverse lights and fog lights but i did nearly get run over by anold VW camper the other day with no reverse lights.

Maybe it's one of those things where the law says if you have them they must work as my pickup failed its MOT because the foglight didn't work.

Look on the DVLA website maybe?

Both are required for type approval on all vehicles after a certain date (which escapes me at the mo but it was sometime late 70's/early 80's)

But there is a big difference between whats needed for type approval and whats needed in reality.

I doubt many of the aftermarket lexarse and the such lights would comply with the type approval requirements.

Ok that means i need to convert my lights around. I was hoping to get away without a reverse light but i found a way i can have both.

Cheers.

To your final question, pass an MOT and be road legal. No and No.

Being without either is irresponsible and HIGHLY increases the likelihood of you being involved with one of the already numerous toss drivers on the road.

rear fog light

Rear fog light is compulsory for the mot, reversing lights are not but if fitted they must work

Its funny on Speedy's car because when he reverses one of his fogs come on!! Because he has a LHD bravo rear light so he has two fogs and no reversing light, looks more symmetrical

Dont have a fog light on Car number 2, changed it for two reverse lights as they were off a Fiat Coupe and have been told this ok by a mechanic. I was told if they arent there they were fine, but if they were then they need to work.

Can understand the reason for reverse lights for ovious reasons, but fog lights just incourage ******s to sit in the middle lane of the motorway with them on in perfect visibilty giving everybody else a headache!!

I have never used my foglight and can honestly say that, and people that need them normally are accompanied by beer bottle glasses and a thermos :)

So if its not fitted i dont need it. Hmmm. I guess i can rid the reverse light then afterall.

I would seriously keep your reverse light fella, could cause all typres of problems, especialy reversing in the dark!!!, to see the rabbit your just about to pop your wheel over again just to make sure.

re reversing light

The question was, Is it a legal requirement for a reversing ligh! the answer is no!But, It is a good idea to have one as Nathan says. Personally i would make front foglamps illegal.

a lot of "tastefully" done up novas have two identical rear clusters with fog lamps but no reverse lights.

fog lamps have to be there and work.

reverse lamps dont have to be there but have to work if they are.

Try this Joske

http://www.ukmot.com/malcolm.asp

Some there on fog lights, not sure on reverse lights.

Which ever one you are wanting to remove, you could always buy the ugly rectangles one from your motor factors with the bracket. Just bolt it under the bumper and fold it away, then at MOT time, fold it back down.
