Hi all, I removed the rear seatbelts to take off the rear interior trim panels. The seatbelt has now fully wound itself back in, and won’t unlock. Is there a trick to getting this to release?

With it in your hand , not bolted down, you need to hold it in the exact position it would sit in the car both horizontally and vertically with the angle the same as it would be in the car, then give it a gentle bang with your hand and hopefully it will release the ratchet mechanism.
Note if you have pulled it really tight and wound the webbing too much it will be very difficult to release.
Do not attempt to undo the mechanism as it would invalid any insurance claim in an accident and if seen would fail an MOT. They are considered none servicable.!!!

Thanks, I’ve tried that but not had any luck so far. I got to this point because it locked just too short to reattach to the car, so I had to inch it back to try and release the lock. Unfortunately I’m not all the way wound in and it’s still stuck fast. Annoying. I’ll keep at it, maybe I haven’t got the angle right yet.

The angle has to be exact in every direction, then bang it to release the ratchet.:)

Managed to get there in the end. With the belt held at exactly the right angle, I have it some very gentle pulls to gradually work it loose. You can hear a click when it’s in the right position. Thanks for the help, seatbelt is refitted :)
