Hi people

I know this is really really off topic but I also know that a lot of you are I.T. people and clued up on computers far more than me ...lol

Does any body know if there is a simple way of testing my internet speed ????

NTL are saying that they are giving me a free upgrade to 2 meg broadband from my existing 600k speed

but Im a bit dubious thats all as it doesnt seem that much faster than before and I would have thought it should ???

thanks for any help guys

jimbo

cheers roberto

cheers mate your a star

thats brilliant although it shows my internet speed as 687k

In fairness to NTL they did say that it would be upgraded some time in may so I suppose they just havent got round to it yet eh??

At least now I can keep checking every now and then and keep an eye on things if i still dont notice any faster downloads and things

thanks again mate

Re: cheers roberto

Jimbo, the most obvious way to test your speed is to download a file.

goto microsoft.com and download say Windows Media Player for example.

If you're still on 600kbps NTL, you'll get a download speed of about 80kb/sec.

If they've upgraded you already, you'll get a download speed of 240kb/sec or there abouts.

Re: cheers roberto

If you go to the NTL website, you can choose to upgrade now ;)

Re: cheers roberto

Wow, great internet speeds ... I only have 3 kb/sec

turn off your ntl modem for ten minutes then try the link roberto posted if not get on the phone to ntl and they will upgrade you within 20 minutes...hope it helps

thanks to everyone for that ......

although im not really sure if i would be able to ring and ask them to upgrade straight away as its supposed to be a free upgrade and they just said it would happen sometime in may

maybe they havent got the sytems sorted out at their end just yet????

thanks for all the replies anyway ...

they upgraded mine from 350k to 1meg the within 20 mins of calling them. its all in the pipeline to upgrade evryone but make it happen faster with that call

Hmmm, think my results sound a bit limp for ADSL 1Mb....

Communications 898.7 kilobits per second
Storage 109.7 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 9.3 seconds
Subjective rating Good
