General  Rate you Stilo

General  Rate you Stilo

How many of you were told by friends not to buy the Stilo because Fiat make rubbish cars? Now, how many of them stood by you over the years and saw nothing is falling off and it's still working? Moreover, nobody liked the thought of me buying it but now some of my friends are actually looking to buy.

I couldn't agree with you more.
FIATs do have a bad reputation, reliability and corrosion was the two main complaints I heard but niether are true of todays cars. Some of my friends and family now know how good they really are and have decided to purchase as a result.

All my friends make joke bout my Stilo, they all drive VWs, Audis, german cars in general but for 3 years I've never been to the garage except for the wishbones and the rear bushings... and I am the one who drives them to pick their cars from the mechanic.. a lot :) And the jokes are on me now :)

The people buy from what they hear, not from what they like. That's why, in my oppinion, more people go for golfs rather than a bravo or stilo. Because the brand gives them confidence. Fiat was always thought to make bad cars, so everyone thinks they are rubbish. Ask a friend with a service on how often does he needs to repair Astras or Focuses or even Golfs that are in the same mileage zone as your Fiat.

When we bought the first Stilo, it was either that or a golf or focus. I drove all 3 and after a ride in the Stilo, I was sure that was the car to be. Golf is lame, astra looks like a chipmunk all of them mainly suck at performance.

The Stilo has Style and attitude. It's a car for those who want a smooth ride and acceptable performance. It's cheap and offers a lot more than the golf 4, which is what FIAT wanted in the first place. Too bad they have a bad reputation.

I actually made a comparison with one of my friends about the options the new golf and the bravo have. The comparable version of the Golf takes out more than 10000E from your pocket for the same gadgets. And with a 5 year or 500.000 km warranty on the Bravo, I dear you to buy the Golf. :yum:

Very good assessment of the Stilo's situation (and that of the new Bravo also). I entirely agree that people spend needless money on Golfs simply because of a perceived reputation for reliability which is not born out in practice.

The big mistake with the new Bravo was retaining the Stilo underpinnings and not installing a proper independent rear suspension which is now the norm in family hatches. That, and forgetting about the conversion to RHD which created an incredibly cramped footwell and pedal area.

But that's a bit off toic...

Sorry bout that, but what's RHD, I plan on buying the new bravo? I did a test drive and i think it's an amazing car... nothing is sqweaking...

Don't you mean

RHD = Right Hand Drive. (steering wheel on the proper side)
LHD = Left Hand Drive... (steering wheel on the left)

I drove a new Sporty Bravo in London a few months ago, steering wheel on the "proper side", and foot space seemed rather ok. Most of the gadgets are taken from the Stilo and placed under a different lighting and that's it. :)

If I would be a resident there (which is strongly hope to become) I would indeed get annoyed by the lack of a foot rest of which I fully benefit out of my wrong sided steering wheel Stilo. :p But that's conversion for you. Some things just don't add up. My brother in law has a Rover 25 that was engineered in GB and everything is perfectly in place. I guess you guys think a little bit more than the italians. :yum:

Mmm - a world without Stilo....?

I would've bought another slightly untrendy but quietly brisk TDi. Probably a Skoda or Seat, or maybe one of the last Rover 45's.

I've had two Stilo JTDs and covered over 150k with very little problem. They've never failed and left me by the roadside, just a few niggles with the overboost & tracking. They're fast and comfortable, and very strongly built.

was happy with my stilo, until the steering wheel lost all connection to the rack. see post! can safely say i wont ever buy another.

I reckon a RenaultSport Megane DCI 150 would be a good alternative, but the Stilo has all the character other cars simply do not have.
