Hey everyone,

This is my first post and I've recently bought a Grande Punto 1.3 Multijet Sport (90bhp model) and although I'm thoroughly pleased with the car it does have one VERY annoying niggle with the radio...here goes:

1. I switch the radio off by holding the button down for about 2 seconds and the thing does what its supposed to....switches off.
2. I park the car and turn the engine off.
3. The following day (or immediately after, doesn't make a difference) I get back into the car and as soon as I turn the key to the pre-ignition position (when all the lights go on like a christmas tree) the radio switches itself on and says "MEDIA PLAYER" before defaulting to whatever I had before like "FM RADIO".

Now, I took it to the dealer who did the exact same thing and low and behold...it was fine. In other words the radio didn't switch itself on! This really pissed me off as its blatently sod's law!

Before anyone says "you have to disable...." I've got the following options set on the car:

RADIO: "00MIN OFF"
BLUE&ME: "SETTINGS -> MULTIMEDIA -> AUTOPLAY: OFF"

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated as this is VERY annoying!

I have found, if you switch the radio on and off after you have switched the ignition off then it wont turn on when you restart, but its quite standard for the car to turn its radio on when the ignition is turned on?

Thanks for the fast replies guys!

smifton: Does yours do this as well? Its not normal according to the Blaupunkt manual that came with the car. It says that if you turn the ignition off with the radio off, then it won't come on again when you turn the ignition on. The radio will only switch on if you left it on before turning the ignition off.

T14086: Seems not. The only relevant options I found on the radio menu was the "auto off time" feature which has been disabled.

Welcome to the forum

Not the best solution, but if all else fails how about turn down the volume to 0 before switching off the ignition?

Welcome to the forum...

OK this happens becuase you have your media player stick stuck in. I took it out and volla doesn't come on.

Although, I imagine if you search the settings there's a function to turn it off.

Otherwise as you say, when car starts you get Girls Aloud blasting out, which looks good in front of my 'ard mates.. :yum:

Brilliant 'Jason 6780' I had the same problem too and just thought it was crap Blaupunkt software programme and so used to turn the volume down
Good so now I know there's nothing wrong with it
Ta!

When I got my car, just yesterday by the way - Yay! It didn't turn on automatically, and it didn't turn off automatically either, which I found extremeley annoying, but then I found out the Auto Off was set to 20 min, Why woul you want your Radio to stay on for 20min after you have left the car?????
Anyway, The Auto Off settings as they seem to impact on it turning on as well!

Unfortunately this has been happening without a pen drive in the USB port so I don't think thats it :(

Oh I see... perhaps try putting the pen back in. Selecting CD whilst pen is in - then taking pen out. Turning radio off? (y)

.....So you don't have to have the 'ignition' on
you can also take the key out, then turn the radio/cd on and leave the kids to listen to the radio......switches off after the time you've selected
I think it's a good feature.
Won't let you listen to the blue&me 'media player' though which is a bummer.

I've finally found the root cause of the problem: Microsoft! :)

Came across this thread in the Italian Grande Punto Club: http://www.grandepuntoclub.com/sniptz/viewtopic.php?t=10766

To sum it up the problem is that the "MEDIA PLAYER" component of Blue&Me always tried to look for the MP3 file you were last playing if you used a button (on the steering wheel or on the radio) to change to a different source or function. Looks as if doing this simply puts "MEDIA PLAYER" into some sort of "pause" mode.

To overcome this you need to issue the voice command "STOP" whilst listening to music via Blue&Me in order to completely stop the playback.

I've tested it and it works like a charm!

My question is, would you ever trust Microsoft to run an engine management system? :p
