:)Hi When i turn on the radio the aerial does not come up although you can here the electric aerial motor running . I have to pull it up manually .When the radio is turned off the motor runs but does not retract the aerial Ihave to push it back in . Any ideas ? Thanks Ian

Broken / detached feed wire or worn drive mechanism.

The aerial is pushed/pulled up and down by a bendy/springy wire that is payed out and rolled in by the electric motor.

You will have to open the unit and go from there. It may be repairable depending on what has happened.

Hi ianastronomy,

As s130 rightly said, it is 99% sure that the toothed belt that pulls and pushes the aerial has gotten brittle and snapped. I replaced mine with a generic unit that has held out well. It is a little taller than the original aerial, and the look of it on the car is a little odd, but it does the job. I think it was about 20-30 pounds, so not too earth-shatteringly expensive. I personally didn't bother with repairing the belt because it is just too much hassle (if you do decide to open it up you can see for yourself).

Give me a few days to look for it on the Ebay. I bought it about a year ago so it might be a little hard to find.

Thanks,

Chris

I've replaced mine 3 times in the 3years I have it.
The cables inside keep snapping.

I've put in an antenne from 2003, greased it up and put a button in between so I can deside to retract or not.
Hold quite good till now.

What really kills the antenna is frost/cold and then retracting it.
Cable snaps on the spot doing that

Hiya! Easier to just replace it with a small rubber one.
Think it looks better than the remote controlled car look. :D

You're right about it makes the car look like it's being radio controlled. hehe:D
But don't take this as an offend but I don't like your solution too.

I'll get the hole welded up next year when mines in for a full respray.

Gsf have them for sale at around 45 pound, mine doesn't work but I don't listen to the radio when I'm driving anyway-

German swiss french parts but also Italian. gsf.co.UK type in your reg and they show you categories of parts for your car
