I suppose it was inevitable really as the world starts down-sizing:

FGAUK said:
Production of this unique, award winning, mid-size MPV will come to an end in March this year.

Since its UK introduction ten years ago, the remarkable Multipla has received accolades from all quarters of the UK motor industry media. To date, this innovative MPV has won some 14 UK media awards, including BBC Top Gear Magazine and Top Gear TV programme’s Car of the Year 2000 and Best Family Car 2000, 2001 and 2002, Fleet World and Channel 4 Driven’s Best MPV 2000, Auto Express and Diesel Car magazine’s Best Compact MPV 2001, MPV Towcar of the Year 2001, Used Car Buyer magazine’s Best Used MPV and Used Car of the Year 2002 and, in April this year, What MPV and 4x4?’s MPV Mastermind 2004.

We will issue a public press release alerting customers of their last chance to purchase this exceptional vehicle. Ordering has now been closed; sufficient central orders have been placed with the factory to ensure sales volumes are met for this year.

The Doblo is truly awful to look at. The (original) Multipla was a design classic; a piece of art. But don't talk to me about engine troubles. Wish VW had built the lump.

I worked for Fiat Auto UK when we took the decision to take the Multipla for the local market. Won many awards but was hell to get it selling in any volume... sad as it was an amazing car!

Sad to see it go, but times move on.
Its a pity there isnt an equally daring replacement, the car had alot of fans.

Boring (capable) new dob takes on cars like the S-Max head on, it will have to be good!!

Even more disappointing is that the kind of discounts I would need to by a shiny new multi just wont be available.

if your talking about the 1.9jtd engine which is used in many cars then its a very reliable lump which is being sadly phased out itself in favour of the new 1.6 engine due to ever strict emission laws.

Which by design, smaller capacity with higher output, will have a shorter service life regardless of what the bumph actually says.

Also unlikely to be as reliable due to a larger amount of sensors and emissions equipement.

Nicer to drive and greater refinement I should imagine.

What a shame.

I think one of the reasons the volume of sales has always been disappointing is that people simply dont know they have 6 seats over 2 rows.

Virtually everyone who has ridden in ours has said something along the lines of - well i never knew these had 6 seats, always thought they were the same as a scenic etc what a good idea.

Doblo is a berlingo / kangoo / partner / roomster clone. Great car but no stand out in a crowd features like 6 seats or character of the ugly bug. Probably find this will be a massive advantage in the uk market though.

The thing is thouigh is that what happens in the UK does not determine Fiats direction, we are a small market which often explains lack of advertising and the disapperance of such models as croma (very underrated) and older models which are still available elsewhere.

Real shame.

I can't believe that there are not more 6 seaters on the road. In the time that we have owned the Multi our other cars have been -

Toyota Corrolla Verso (7 seats)
Citroen C4 Picasso
Citroen C8

None of them have been any good for our family as they don't have any boot to speak of when the seats are up, so none have lasted that long.

VW's are no better alot of the time ;)

I had a Passat B6 2.0TDI-140 for 2 years. Did around 100k miles in it.

However, it wasn't quite what the Germans would have you believe.

2 fuel pump failures
Creaking front suspension from 50k miles - never fixed
Immobiliser failure on Good Friday 2008 - left me stranded at Monmouth services for 2 hours
Flywheel and clutch replaced on 100k miles - at a cost of around £1200
Coin drawers in the dash swallowed my fuel card, then jammed, which had to be fixed as part of a recall
Diesel cooler fractured

You don't want to know what it cost to service, either - how about a Fiat 20v matching £900 for a cambelt change?

Don't get me wrong, I loved the car and would happily have another - but don't believe the hype.

Agreed, I had a polo and it was one of the most unreliable cars I have had.

VW got the advertising down years ago and it paid off.

Do you mean oil cooler?

Went on a friends GT TDi Golf, was thought to be HG at first, cars been off the road for almost a year now because he can't afford to fix it (mainly because he's a lazy sod, granted, lol).

I told him it was a poor example when he took me along to look at it when he brought it.
