Quick Head Unit and Amp/Sub Question

My old HU had audio out which i used to link to my amp.

My NEW HU has Sub out - i've used this to go to my amp instead of the audio out.

1) Is this right? Should I have used the Sub out?

2) My Sub is sounding loads more bassey than it used to be - do I just need to adjust the setting on the sub for my new HU?

Don't think you need the spec, and this is with the Equalizer off and all speakers at normal setup - emulating what u had before ;)

if you have a sub out then you should have a seperate sub level control on your head unit, a bit like a second volume control for the sub.

The sub out should go to the amp driving your sub

If you have normal speakers driven off an amp you should run a second cable from a normal output to that amp.

cheers for the reply mate!

yeah i have got the sub level control, will adjust it on the amp first cos it is very very bassey, then i can adjust it from the HU whenever i want.

yeah i do have normal speakers running off the same amp, so i need to run a new cable, i'm guessing my amp should have more than one input - i'll check this later (not near my car at th mo at work)

if you have sub and speakers running off the same amp them i am guessing you have a 4 channel amp or greater with 2 of the channels bridged for the sub?

If you you should have an input for each channel on the amp. you need one rca from the sub out to the channel with the sub on and one rca from the normal out to the channel with the speakers on.

yeah that's spot on mate - i've got a JBL GTO 4000 600watt 4 Channel Amp - 2 channels are bridged for the sub.

i'll get that sorted then - get a new cable ran to the sub from my audio out of my HU.

glad i asked now cos i've got to take my CD Changer cable out soon anyway.

one more question mate - i'm wanting to put some components in the front in the next month - will i be ok running them off my amp - obviously my sub will not be able to be bridged then?

cheers for your help! :)

Comps will sound really good from your amp.

Sounds like you need another amp or upgrade to a 6channel :)

I have the GTO6000 in mine running comps, 6x9's and 2 subs. Using the 3 sets of pre outs on my head into the amp.

so you've got 3 audio cables coming from the back of your HU - one for the sub (sub out) one for the comps and one for the 6x9's.

is there no way i can use my amp to amp sub comps and 6x9's then no? :( looks like i'll have to get a new amp?

unless i run the 6x9's off the HU and amp the comps - at least i'd have the best sound in the front then?

Pre outs from head are front, rear and sub.

£ lots of inputs on the amp too. Its a wiring nightmare!

you could run the 6x9's and components off the same channel but i have no idea what it would do to the quality of sound or power out. If they were in parallel i am assuming it would sound the same but you would get less power to each speaker, or would be using more power to get the same sound. Assuming that the speakers you got could be paired, which is a little above my audio knowledge.

I would either get another 2 channel amp or swap your 4 channel for a 6 channel and run 3 rca cables, then you keep your front to back fade control etc.
