Own a 2000(x) HGT. 60(somethingk miles.

Not having any problems (I dont think), but just after general info from other HGT drivers maybe?

How do you know if a MAF is faulty?
Will it gradually deteriorate or all of a sudden become knackard?
Should you periodically clean it?
Whats the best thing to use to clean, petrol?

My car is fine. It shifts fine on 2nd gear all the way to 5.5k revs, but after that still goes but not as "hard" as 3.5k to 5.5k revs, this normal?

Would love to clean MAF, but darnt risk breaking it especially if functing ok.

Love to "try" a brand new one to see if that makes a difference, again dont want to spend £70+ on something unnecessary!

Any advice?
 
Mine deteriorated very slowly and was probably still ok as I did not experience the massive change that some have.
By the sounds of it yours is fine. As for cleaning, no idea I'm afraid.

from what you described,mine is the same.theres no struggle from it and shifts fine,right up til 6k.BUT i always wondered if it was on its way out and if i needed a new one myself but never bothered in the end tbh.
You can clean them with electrical contact cleaner and cotton buds (if you take it apart) but some say dont do it as it wont be the same.

Id just leave it mate until you experience some worse problems :)

Car Status: 25/09 - Car all fired up and running :)
 
It happens with time - rarely all of a sudden.
First symptom is a hole around 4000rpm, so the car has a bit of a hesitation while accelerating.

DO NOT clean it if you dont have to, you can do more harm then positive.

And yes you can use petrol to clean it.
