My Bambino's quarter lights could do with being re-chromed. If I'm taking them out I'd also like to replace the seals while I'm at it. I've got replacements for the seals between the quarter lights and the door frame, but was wondering if it's possible to get seals to replace those between the quarter light glass and the quarter light frame. It looks like it's made out of a hard plastic, rather than rubber.

Cheers,
Matt

Matt,

I got my frames repaired and then put the glass back in with a black sealant. Bit messy, but I basically filled the frame with the sealant, then pushed the glass in. Most of the sealant squeezes out, you have to resist trying to clean it up. Let it dry and then trim it with a sharp knife.

Where you frames rusty at the point of the bend?

Regards

Roger, Joe, thanks for the advice. Once I've had them re-chromed, I'll use one of the tubes of black silicon sealant I have to seal between the glass and the frame. I bought replacement seals to seal between the glass and pivoting frame & the quarter light frame this week from Moto Bambino, so I'll let you know how they work out.

Joe, I'm not sure what the condition of the frames are like, as the previous owner has painted the frames silver, rather than re-chrome them. Once I've taken them out and stripped the paint back, I'll let you know.

Cheers,
Matt

When removing the quarter light frame from the window frame, I assume you have to drill out the rivet which holds the two together? If so, when re-fitting them, how do you replace the rivet?

Thanks,
Matt

Yes you do need to drill the rivet out, but you can buy new ones.

You would have to take the two frames out if you were going to use a rivet again I think. You need a lot of force to clamp the rivet and I could not think of a practical way to do it without possibly damaging something.

In the end I got a small stainless cup head bolt and ground down the head till it was flat and about 1.5mnm thick and shortened it as well. I also ground down the nut to same thickness. Used loctite and did it up as tight as I could. Time will tell if th solution is OK.

Thanks Joe. I also spoke to Middle Barton Garage and they said the only way to refit them is using a nut and bolt.
