I fitted my strut brace at the wknd, simply by unbolting the nuts, and after postioning - rebolting before tightening the adjuster in the centre.

Am told by someone that I need to jack the car up first before tightening. Surely once its tight - its tight, or are they correct? Can anyone settle this for me??

If the car is on the ground, the bolts are not under any force, so better to say they are free and the strut brace can be put on. If the car where in the air, when loosening the bolts the whole spring and shock would fall down and you would loose the thread to put the brace on.
So, you did it right. :)

I only needed to undo two of the three bolts on either side, and the bearing plate beneath which the bolts bolt into, has studs to help it retain position, so I doubt it would have moved at all. cheers for the assurance anyhoo
