Technical Punto SX 55 Electrics

Hi, just recently bought a new Punto SX 55 '95, was cheaper to buy a new one than repair my old Punto so I did that. Car didn't have MOT but got through fine, only thing wrong with it is the electrics.

For example, the lights where you adjust the heat, above the stereo, decide randomly whether or not to come on and the fuel gauge resets when you either put on the rear window heater or press the brake pedal, weird huh?

My Dad and Grandad, Grandad who has been a mechanic for a fair number of years said it is probably a dodgy earth somewhere, he said just to clean the sockets and wire it back up.

What do you guys think? And where can I find the earths for the interior electrics?

Okay cheers for the confirmation Dave, any idea where they are located on the car?

all the black wires are earths, the plugs on back of dash clocks and on fuel pups also have earths so pull them off and clean the pins
