Evening people.

Its been a while since I was here, but been a while since I had a fiat!

Have had a Mk2 Punto for 12 months or so. To be fair, has been a good little car.

Started to misfire / run crappy on an intermittent basis. Put it on a code reader and came up with P0352 (Coil pack B - I am hoping its not ECU like I have read)). Replaced coil pack and erased codes and car is running a lot better - not perfect, but expect will take a few miles for ECU to adjust to coil pack. When it was misfiring, the EML was also intermittently illuminating - would come on with the issue, start to run fine, then next time it was stared EML was off)

I have only replaced coil B - coil A was replaced in April when it got a P0300 code. (and that cleared up when replaced and codes erased)

However, since issues with misfire, (now corrected!) have noticed what I can only describe as a rattle from the left hand side of the rocker.

I know its picking straws / needle in haystack, but any ideas? My only two would be camshaft (or belt) or tappets (assuming they are fitted? - I don't know)

I hope its not too serious - I don't have a lot of money for repairs (or replacement).

I know there are various threads on here, but I am not sure if I have one issue, or several.

Thanks
Oscar

Can you get a video of the noise?

Tbh coil pack failures - should never be done single tbh.... i'd replace both, if 1 fails, the others not to far behind

*yours was like 6months*

I'd also throw some HT's and new plugs for extra good measure, i did when i blew my first coil pack

Ziggy

My phone isn't up to much unfortunately, so video wont be good sound wise or other.

When the first coil was replaced, I also replaced HTs and Sparks then (and sparks needed doing)

Rather than knock, a loud regular tick might be a better description. I did notice it has a slight leak from the rocker on the opposite side.

Not quite.

Can hear mine on tick over when warm / hot.

There is a video on here of a brava (found after my post) that's very similar, but not sure they are the same engine?

Apparently, I cant post links, but its the second thread in the Bravo/Brava under Fiat cars

BALLS!!!

Had someone nearby listen to engine who said tappets. (they are a mechanic)

However, when it was running, the mis-fire retuned, the EML returned! So I suspect I have a knackered dodgy ECU.

Are the ones on fleabay woth bothering with? And also, will I need to replace the coils again? (I suspect I know the answer to the latter.)

Even though was changed recently (or fairly)?

If its coil pack b again (on the code reader), is it safe to assume its ECU?

I haven't plugged it in again tonight - am just speculating.

Car been back on a reader - full snap on job.

Still pulling up P0352. Took air filter off so I could check I put the leads back in correct order. (just in case)

Only thing can assume now is the ECU. (from what I have read on here)

I assume if it doesn't, then ECU will be the main suspect?

Went out in car this morning, started ok. Had couple of "chugs", but as not been running properly Ignored these. Drove about 10 miles, SEEMS to be running ok now after checking lead connections (and order) EML has not come back on - so hoping its sorted. Though doesn't really tell me what the issue was.

Well...... issues have started again.

EML came on last night, but no running issues - took it out this this morning, went onto bypass got revs up, light went out.

Had already arranged to put it on code reader - when taking it there, started to misfire. Code reader gave P0300 and P0352.

Leads an plugs both replaced in March, as was Coil A. Coil B replaced 7 weeks ago when first had P3052 error.

Am at a bit of a loss now.
