General Punto not starting

Hi,

I hope that someone can help. I have a 1994 1.1 55s punto that will not start. I was driving at motorway speeds when the car just died, it was very sudden and gave no warning. I now can'nt get the car to start. I have checked there is a spark an all plugs and I have checked that fuel if getting through the carb which it is. The engine turns over but it never attempts to fire. There is plenty fuel and the fuel pump is working fine. I have re-coded the keys and still the same. can someome help me please.

I know this is a really daft suggestion, but is the cambelt broken?

I checked the cambelt and it seems to be ok. I removed the cover and and turned it over, all seems to be turning ok.

crank shaft sensor?

not sure how to test the sensor but if its sparking does this mean that the sensor is working?
