HI all new to forum .
my punto wont start .Changed the sensor ,relays and ecu but no spark. My fuel light is flashing but there is plenty of fuel in it . took off battery to recharge when put back it started then stopped and back to the beginning .Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved .Many thanks

cleaned all fuses and earths ,fully charged battery ,changed all relays camshaft sensor and all that happens is car turns over but no spark . fuel light flashing on and off but loads of fuel .put in second hand ecu but still same prob . Many thanks for reply though .

Just to clarify, this is a 1.2, 8 valve 1999 punto. The engine cranks nicely, but I get no spark from any ht lead. Also the fuel gauge does not register and flashes empty. After fully charging the battery overnight, I reconnected it, the fuel gauge worked, and the car started. I switched off the ignition and tried again but no fuel gauge and back to non starting. It has not run since. I have cleaned all the small and large fuses in the fuse box ( next to the battery ), I have swapped out all the relays in both fuses boxes, I have changed the crankshaft sensor, and I have even swapped over the ecu from a scrap vehicle.
Of course the replacement ecu could be junk, but I'm reluctant to go and get another if thats not the problem. I know I dont need to code the ecu as I have swapped this part before when I had a steering fault.

Any ideas guys.

I think you complicated your life by changing ecu
If there is no spark check all plug leads and specially coil pack

the chances of all 4 ht leads failing at the same time are somewhat minimal. its also a twin coil pack so I would not expect both to fail. If they were faulty, neither would explain the unusual flashing fuel tank warning light that accompanies this fault. What ever is causing the problem, also affects the fuel gauge.

Yes you right i read your original post properly
So the fuel gauge problem was there with original ecu?
Yes 4 plug leads wont fail at same time but if coil pack is faulty even if is a twin one it will not make any of them spark
Swap coil pack with one that you know defo works and see how it goes

I'm pretty sure the 2 coils are separate so if one goes down you still have two cylinders running, but I will check tomorrow. I will also check the voltage to them. The fuel gauge problem appears to be consistent with the fault. When the car runs, the gauge is fine, when it does not run, it reads empty. I have not managed to have the car running with the second ecu, but like the first ecu the fuel gauge problem is present.

Just a thought on the sensors that you replaced
Are they original good ones or cheap aftermarket ones?
From personal experience alfa/fiat cars dont like cheap aftermarket ones specially cam or crank sensors
Let us know how you getting on with it

Hi all,
I am new to the forum and would like some help as a friend has asked me to look at her car as her husband is away with work.

It is a 1.2, 8 valve w reg punto. The engine cranks nicely, but I get no spark from any ht lead. Also the fuel gauge does not register and flashes empty. I have tried jump starting it and have cleaned the battery terminals and fuses in the engine fuse box as they were very dirty.

Has anyone come across this problem before ??

Many thanks

Just to check is this a Mk1 or a Mk2 punto, Mk1s dont have cam sensor and the flashing "fuel" would be the injector light so could be an immobiliser fault.
