The wiper on the driver side decided to stop working on my 53 plate punto 1.4 sporting so my mate did a DIY job on it so it would last for a few months. Now it's gone again and he said I have to get the whole thing to replace. I have seen some on eBay claiming they work from 1999-2006 models and others saying that the mk2 ones dont work but haven't got the slightest clue where to start. Any advice would be great guys because the local garage said it would cost almost £300 and I don't really wanna be paying that. Thanks!!

Sounds like the link arm popped off. Loads of stuff on here about ways to fix. Wipex link arms about a tenth of the number you're being quoted. Have a look and see exactly what's happened.

Any chance of a a picture of what has been drilled and welded?
Ill see what I can do when the other half returns. She's popped shopping while its not raining. I know it's been drilled and a bold was put on it to tighten it up and the guy in the garage welded it the other day just so my missis could drive home. (She works next to a garage) the guy said 300 bucks it would cost and I don't wanna be paying that much.
A weld fix should be practically permanent if done correctly and cost very little.
Thanks for all the info mate. Ill try and get a pic when the other half gets back now. Just incase I have to get the new part. Is there any difference in the mk2 and mk2b parts because some same the mk2 ones fit the punto up from 1999-2006 and I read on another tht their different. Think it might be time for a new car before long

I replaced the whole mechanism and motor by buying bits from a dealer for about £80.00. Whole job only took 5 minutes. I would ask there first.
You can run into electrical problems with the older wiper assemblies as in they won't park properly and such. Hopefully if the bottom end of the wiper spindle is not bodged out of all recognition a simple repair will be enough.
