any petrol station but my baby wont let me put any petrol in at all, used to let me if i put in it slow but now just clicks off all the time, iv posted on here before explainin that i find it hard to put fuel in but now its just gave up, checked everything, please help

tried all that many of times, even in and out but nothin, its had new fuel filter and checked the tank and also the filler neck, iv seen on net that it could be a carbon filter?

Utter shiite.

There is a small pipe next to the main filler pipe which has a one way valve in it. If the pipe is blocked or the valve jammed, that'll be it.

Can't be the fuel filter (how would that stop you filling the tank?) and can't be the carbon filter (which is "just" a passive emissions device, miles away from the tank).

Type car refuses to fill up with petrol into Google and you will get some ideas to choose from and eliminate until you get it sorted out.

looked all over google but still no luck, i havent tried fillin it through a gas can... iv checked the filler neck pipes and seem clear apart from the small ubend pipe which cant see into it or get anythin into it

looked at the breather pipe from the top of the filler neck but cant see any valve, and the bottom of the pipe just hangs there with nothing connected to at the bottom

Dunno -- probably not.

I'm unsure of the layout on Puntos, but on the Cinqs (which are contemporary with the Mk1s) the breather pipe joins the main filler pipe at the top, near the filler cap. The rest of the pipe (convoluted, but smaller diameter) runs to the top of the tank, pretty much centrally. The valve is up towards the top.

Full access entails removing the screws inside the fuel flap. removing the tank, undoing the hoses and pulling the hoses and filler thing down and out.

Not a fun job.

But a bad kink or blocked off hoses, or hose not attached (and, you have to presume, the stub in the tank blocked off) would certainly cause filling problems.

Looks as though someone has bodged yours at some time, perhaps as part of tank replacement?

will have to look tomoz afternoon, hoping that something will stand out and not look right, fingers crossed, oh couple of other things as well, after iv put some petrol in i get a really strong smell of fuel for a few min, but got no leaks and sometimes when i start car up i get a slight bang but cant work out where it comes from

Tried a different petrol station?

My Punto can be a right bugger to get petrol in sometimes. Varies from station to station so I know which ones to avoid. Local Shell will be a bugger to fill and refuse to put anymore in (without pouring over the floor) at 3/4 of a tank. Local BP will fill to the brim on full flow with no issues. Other stations seem to vary.

Kinda used to it now.

Yep, same issue here; some pumps at some stations seem to be better suited than others. I think it's due to the speed it's delivered - if the pump keeps "clicking" off this can usually be remedied by delivering fuel at the slowest rate possible on the trigger. (After rotating the nozzle angle for best flow).

I think that pumps that deliver petrol at a slow rate are best suited for this car. It's a case of trial and error to find them though!

you know i don't miss this problem.. Our old P60 was a nightmare to get fuel in - i knew the technique but sometimes it really was stand there with the fuel trickling in for what seems like an age before you have a full tank.

My GT has never done this though, not once.. Full trigger until click and its full. Now the GT filler neck cannot be different so i would suspect that fingers is correct and there is a breather issue.
