I had the alternator changed on my Punto by mobile mechanic. All was well until went to turn the car over and now the immobiliser has come on and car won’t start now.

Hi.

Same with both keys?

Its possible the cars CANBUS network doesnt recognise the alternator.

Try disconnecting battery negative lead.. and checking other connections .. then reconnect an hour later.. might just reset something.

The GP does seem very fussy about teplacement alternators.

Can : did the mechanic attempt to pair new devices with a relearn ?

Hi, yeah both keys are not working. I have a auto locksmith looking at the car and even he’s having problems. He’s coming back tomorrow morning again.

Hi.

Personally.. I would disconnect the alternator.. then when reconnecting the battery.. see if keycode light goes out.

If it does.. you need a replacement alternator the cars system can live with.

Cheap replacements have caused isdues before.. but not normally with the Immobiliser.. so worth unplugging.. check wiring . Etc.

Most of the times it's just a bad battery.

Is the battery charged and in good condition?

The alternator is not in can-bus network but the voltage output is controlled by the ecu. Bad alternator or starter can drain/short the battery.

Will pass this on to mechanic
