Hi all...
Having just bought my first Punto GT i'm looking to try get some probably very basic info on the car...
I'm looking to return the lowered suspension back to standard and wondered if any other Puntos shared the same original suspension as the GT... ?
also... the car has the "code" light illuminated on the dash all the time its running... is this normal ? I have three keys, 1 red and 2 blue and they all work....
And lastly... does anyone out the have any spare cambelt covers ?
I am in need of both inner and outer covers as some boy racing numpty though it would be a good idea to remove them some years ago...

Many Thanks

welcome to the forum unot1

suspension: the 1.6 8v sporting has the same shocks & springs, all other models are different height and spring rates etc.

code light, no thats not normal - for the car to work and the code light to stay on is actually pretty random, code light constantly illuminated would generally mean the code system is active and the car shouldn't work. My first thought would be it could be something to do with a not standard chip in ecu that will run without the immobilser or something like that.

belt covers, i would either search ebay for cars being broken OR I am pretty sure them parts are available from fiat new still - see attached screenshot of the eper with part numbers - ring them and ask, stuff like this is sometimes pretty cheap compared to what you expect - my eper is a few years old but its saying the outer cover is about £18 inc. taxes. and the inner parts are cheaper still.

Thank you for a brilliantly informative response....
I did contact fiat regarding the cambelt covers... And rather annoyingly they do still make one cambelt cover... The outer... The inner ones have now been discontinued....
I've since discovered too that the metal boost pipe that runs under the engine/gearbox is a total and utter mess... It's been belt, holed and repaired more times than I care to imagine so I'm hoping this parts still available.
The car does have a seb 2 chip... But I'm thinking your referring to something else with regards the code light.
I will probably just remove the bulb as it all seems to work fine.
On the suspension front... Is the mk1 and mk2 suspension interchangeable ?
I've found a mk1 punto 1.6 90 going cheap ? I know it'll provide the covers but suspension too ??
And looking on eBay at brand new springs it appears the 1.7 diesel shares it's suspension with the gt ?
This sound familiar at all ??

Thanks again.
Simon.

The mk1 1600 punto I've found is a elx

Having had a quick look around it seems there are plenty of 1.2 sportings but no 1.6's currently around...

I'm already fed up with the lower suspention so I might just fit the elx suspention till a gt / sporting one shows up if the elx isn't the same.

Ok.. Good thinking about the suspension.

Tell me... You mention you took a screen shot from the "eper"
What is eper and where can I find it ?
Those pictures are really good.

Many thanks.

its not openly available the one i use, you need username and password which i am not authorised to give out. You can find quite new versions for download via torrent pretty easily though and run them locally on your computer.

There is an old eper available on the forum, links in the top bar if using coomputer - can't remember if its accessible via the app or not but i suspect not. Few parts of it have stopped working properly and clearly its not accurate on price or whether stuff is still being made, but still handy for part numbers.
