Technical Punto ELX JTD B1009 code

Hi

After some searching it looks like I'm at the end of the road for this fault.

The B1009 fault code shows a problem on the side light circuit, this puts the yellow bulb failure light on the dash.

I have cleaned and earthed the rear light units separately, changed all the bulbs on the front and rear, replaced the number plate light bulb holder and swapped the dash over and Proxy aligned it but the problem is still there.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as Im scratching my head at this now.

Multiecuscan shows it as B1009 sidelight circuit (fatal)

I can clear the code but as soon as I turn the side lights on its back.

Hi,

Have you checked the rear tailight bulbs? Reason I say that is ive had LOADS of these where there are 5w bulbs in them instead of 10w. I dont know weather its somewhere like halfords or some ebay seller or something saying they should be 5w but they are actually 10w bulbs, if they have 5w bulbs in, they will appear to be working fine when visually inspecting them, but will illuminate the bulb warning light and give the code.

Obviously check they are 12v and not 24v. Same goes for the fronts as well, although they should be 5w.

Presumably you have no led bulbs fitted also?

They are 5w side light bulbs in the rear clusters

Quite strange as Fiat originally supplied the rear sidelight bulbs

I fitted 10w but still had the problem and went back to the Fiat supplied ones

That led to the chasing the code down and finding bad earths and high resistance in the rear light clusters and a burnt multiplug on the rear right earth connection.

After cutting the plugs off both the rear connectors and re-soldering new ones one with new rear secondhand holders I forgot to put the 10w back in to re test.

Thanks for the brain reset and I will put the 10w back in after all the corrective work I have done.

Will report back in with the results

The plugs dont usually fail unless they burn up due to way way way overdue cleaning

when the rear lights come out again
Make sure you clean the bodywork behind the lights
Why?
that mud/crap/grime and everything else there is what holds moisture, which eats the seal and attacks the plug

Clean it away - little wax even may help, it'll prevent water/moisture build up and keep you happy

Replaced the harness plugs due to the earths were overheated and melted the plugs and light units.

Oddly enough some secondhand light units 6 (from other projects) all had 5w side light bulbs fitted ....... hmmm.

Anyways all sorted after re-fitting the 245 10w bulbs. ( embarrassed ) .
