Hi All,

Yesterday someone drove into the back of me 😟 - I've got a split down the back of my rear bumper. I'm currently arguing with the insurance who are super keen to take the car away and have it scrapped - for a damaged bumper!!

Anyway, went to my local scrapper today to see if I could get a bumper. He said as mine is 2014, I need the face-lift 2012 - 2018 type as the earlier ones say off this 2009 one I was looking at "simply won't fit" - is this true? Aside from cosmetic differences and (possibly) lack of parking sensors they look the same?

Keen to get any advice.
Check the picture - this is why they want to write it off (!!)

Fiat Punto Easy 1.4

For the FIAT PUNTO / 6U PUNTO MY 2013 (2013-....)
the rear bumper part number is 71775739.

For the FIAT PUNTO / 3J PUNTO EVO (2009-2011)
there are 2 rear bumpers depending on the trim level:

for Active / Dynamic / Motion / Racing the part number is 735516622,
for Sport the part number is 71770261.

All three for standard gasoline / diesel engines and parking sensors.

So yes, they are different.

Even the plug that covers the towing hook mount has a different part number.

So your 2014 Punto is mechanically no different from the earlier Punto Evo From 2009 -2013.

In 2012 fiat made the bumpers much cheaper to produce by removing a lot of the extra trim and detail.

Technically speaking a 3door Punto Evo bumper should fit a 3 door 2012 to 2018 car. It is however the wrong bumper for the car.
I can’t guarantee there isn’t something different behind the bumper, but essentially the body shell is identical and the bumper from and older Evo should fit.

The mounting brackets have different part numbers, too.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
My car is 2014 but I seem to have selected 2017 for some reason.
The comment regarding fixing brackets rings true as that was something the guy mentioned in the scrapper - that they are completely different. I wasn't too bothered about the bumper looking different (I would paint it anyway) but having it actually fit is an obvious MUST.

I think some filler and rattle can will have to do for now. I've already dug out the reflector repair tape for the light ☺️

I’m not sure there are any brackets per se, they are a bumper cover, just a plastic moulding with screws along the upper edge and in the wheel arches,

Fiat are famed for doing the least amount necessary for a “facelift” I’ve seen grande bumpers on newer models and so I still stick firm to the assertion it should fit

A work colleague has an 08 Punto. The general shape of the bumper does look like it will fit to me but if I go out and buy one and it doesn't fit then I have a problem. I'm fortunate that there's actually several local scrappers so I'm going to ring around next week and see what I can get.

Are you getting the cash from other party..? 🤔

My car is of a similar age now, don't want it written off, but £1200 payout might be useful
After much debate, my insurance has agreed that the damage IS within the scope of economic repair. Good news (I think) as the car is not now written off and I can keep it. They've said curiously that I have SIX YEARS to have the replacement bumper fitted (it must be replaced, not repaired) with either a brand new one or a second hand one by a reputable body repair shop and provide receipts and photographs. They could arrange for me but warned it is likely more expensive and could possibly push it back into the non economical repair category.

That will do me as far as the car is concerned. Used cars are insanely expensive now even on eBay which is where I've bought the vast majority of vehicles. People now expect a grand for something that isn't even running. I've had the Punto 3 years and it's a great reliable car.

Just needs a drop of paint.

Or this one with the parking sensor holes

This post contains eBay links which may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
@PuntoHowTo
Thanks, I had seen the plain one when I was looking the other day but not the one with the parking sensor holes. £129 delivered is very reasonable for brand new. I need to get fitting quotes next week, if I can't get cheaper in the scrapper in good nick I think I will go for this. How much do you think is reasonable for just fitting? Upto £100 or more?

So, the bumper saga just got weirder. I decided on a purchase that was from a salvage place on eBay. I got the bumper for £115 delivered complete with parking sensors, fog lights / rear lights / reversing lights all in situ and the attached wiring - made sense as I need some of those lights due to mine being broken.

Now, my car is a 2014 Fiat Punto Easy 1.4l - the donor car is identical year, model etc. When the bumper arrived today, I immediately thought: "hang on.. these lights look different" - and they are. I then started thinking.. what if my existing bumper is already WRONG because, before my time, it was rear ended previously. So, maybe I already have the "older" or different style bumper fitted and it's just been painted to match. That's possibly why I'm looking at mine, looking at ones off the EVO etc and wondering why they look identical.

But, then I took to eBay and looked specifically at 2014 Fiat Puntos for sale.
I have found so far, SEVEN different style rear bumpers now, many on the exact same model 🤣 I am hoping / thinking this will indeed fit my car fine but what the hell was with Fiat during these years? Where they just pick and mixing parts or have the majority of Puntos all had the rear bumper swapped at some point for fun?

Curious to hear thoughts...
I'll keep you updated regarding fitting and grab some pictures when done.

The bumper on you car MIGHT be wrong, because it WAS rear ended. At least once, looking at the photos in your post.

It can be FIAT, as the manufacturers are known of installing what is available at the factory, it can also depend on trim level, market, etc. I have rear lights on my Ducato that have been discontinued by FIAT 3 years earlier (with the reversing light on one side only, and the law requires I have 4 of them installed: the two upper ones should have been installed by the converter) :D And they are original ones out of factory.

Then, the aftermarket parts producers sometimes modify the designs to make them cheaper in production.

Also tuning could be a cause of different looks.

In your picture above it does look like the bumper has been filled, hence all the cracking of the paint and the seemingly very thick “paint” it’s actually filler, I can’t however tell if this is the older bumper.

Basically in 2012 fiat wanted to cut the production costs of the Punto and so rather than having a two piece bumper cover as on the Evo with the large black centre.

The later cars were all one piece and the hole thing is colour coded. There may be some differences between 3 and 5 door cars, there may be some difference in appearance depending on the colour as lighter colours show more details, but from 2012 -2018 the “Punto” rear bumper didn’t change not even depending on spec.

There were some 2013 and 2014 Evos with the older bumper, there was the Punto Evo abarth that had very different bumpers, I have seen 2014 registered abarths but essentially the “Punto” bumpers that is to say not Evo not Abarth should all be the same.

A Quick Look on eBay I did spot a 2016 model with an Evo rear bumper, but every other car I came across had the same rear bumper.

As I said before the Later cars should be able to take an older Evo bumper as the bumper is essentially the same just now moulded in one piece rather than two.

Another interesting cost cutting exercise was on later post 2012 puntos they went back to using grande rear lights as again these were cheaper than the LED lights fitted to Evos.

It's all pretty interesting - I like continuity problems 😏 I was looking at these pictures for example... so, the top one is 'based' on the third one down, possibly used the same tooling in the factory but rather than the meaty plastic bit, it's just a embossed version of what used to be. The second one is the same as my 'current' bumper where there is no embossed shape at all, this possibly uses the 'older' plain black plastic tool as a template. The bottom picture is the same as what arrived with me today, different design and different lights, this is possibly off or based upon the bumper for the Grande.
All a bit strange..

I'm not sure if my existing bumper has been filled or not. It does seem that it has / had some kind of thick coating of something over the black plastic toward the top but this isn't present by the broken light were the bumper is a clean split. I'll have to have a proper prod when it comes off..

SH11 and CY10 are both Evo bumpers, the reg alone indicate they are both pre 2012 but the black centre is the Evo bumper.
HN14 is a post 2012 Punto bumper, the sort you need.

the final white bumper is a grande bumper

I agree with this but it looks like we can't always trust the reg now as this is now clearly what I know as the 'Grande' bumper but aquired from a 2014 Punto Easy 😵‍💫
Oh well... I suppose it must definitely fit then so I'm sure when its on and painted it will look ok.

Sorry for no update on this saga bit I've been waiting to get bumper fitted etc. I've collected tonight - day time pictures to follow but we can, now, once an for all, confirm that the Grande Punto rear bumper 100% fits the later Evo model.
