Technical punto 1.9d starting but in safe mode

i have a small problem with my punto the engine warning is lit and sometimes when i start the engine it won't let me give gas i haveto turn it off and then on again to be able to drive some people told me that the engine is going in safemode and it might be the diesel pump but i still am not convinced because once it starts it does not give me any problems whilst driving. Can anyone help. thanks

If it is in safe mode it wont want to rev over 2500/3000 which indicates ecu or sensor fault i would try disconnecting the air flow meter - located on the indution system and see if any improvement this will put in the emergency figure for air flow and may help - quite common on jtd's and other diesels if that dont help though you'll need to get the fault code read at a garage..
