General punto 1.2 should i buy

hi
new to this forum i am on the brink of buying a year 2000 1.2 8 valve.
i have read elsewhere that the 1.2 is prone to head gasket failure, is this the case. is there any thing else i should be aware off as i look for the right car.

Hi welcome to the fiat forum
I don't think these engines are any worse than others for head gasket failure, Its because there are so many of these engines out there you will hear more stories about them. If they do go wrong they are very easy to fix you can get all the help on this site to do most jobs yourself.

Hi,

I own a 98 R punto, done only 27k since new, I've had for 5 years. I was driving through city centre today when the red temperature light came on, due to over heating. Called RAC who concluded the engine has head gasket had gone. I haven't got the time to fix myself. Got a quote for £350 from Nationwide Autos.

I've got a 2000 1.2 8v, I've had no problems with the engine, mines done bout 30k. just had a couple of probs - handbrake cable mucked up and needed refitting - fiat dealer sorted it for free. leccy steering failed - fiat dealer sorted it for free. The car was out of warranty @ the time.

All in all they are the best car for the money and look beauty!!
