Styling Project Seicento pickup

So we decided to go along with it. We're making a Seicento pickup. I;ll update this thread with everything that goes on in the next month or two.

The car
A 2002 Fiat Seicento with 30k on the clock. Its been sitting up for nearly two years. Ideally wanted a Cinq but this was much cheaper than any of the Cinqs on the net at the time.

^Need to source a wing..

A clean enough car, apart from the dent on the wing. 4 original hubcaps, original spare wheel. Old handbooks and service manual too.

Starting

Anyway, first thing we done was strip the back. Rear windows and bootlid off. Rear seats pushed forward out of the way.

Next we marked out where we wanted cut. Two sides and roof.

Then we dived straight in and started cutting!

Its a little bit rough around the edges but it'll be tidied up

Done all of this in a little under 30 hours and left it at that for the first day.

Tomorrow we'll strip out the interior completely. Changing the seats out for those half leather/bucket seats from a Laguna, like these;

If these don't fit, was thinking of a bench seat going right across and moving the handbrake and centre console forward a bit.

Anyway, thats todays work. Will keep this updated.

Nice pics, but if it'll be IVA'd anyway, why not lengthen it? An extra few inches turned the mini pick up from a curiosity into a genuinely useful vehicle.

Id rather see it go the other way and lob inches off and make it as small as possible - that would make more of an inpact

I'm with fingers on this, i don't like pickup cento's as a sweeping statement because they always look like a car thats had a bit chopped off and just a bit wrong and awkward. With a longer rear it would look more like an actual pickup and possibly really really awesome (IMO!)

Riiight, so today was er.. interesting.

We cut the rear door in half, to use the bottom half for the rear door thingy, and it didn't fit :bang: So now we have to use fibre glass We had a big falling out because I wanted to make the door fit and the others didn't want to bother.
Now we've to throw out the rear lights and find a whole new style (again, not my idea but it was two against one)

^Fibre glass right across the back. IMO, its gonna look naff. I understand why they took the lights came out but we could have made them fit. I was thinking a set of rear lights from a Cinq could go in?

Also, after seeing this today

I don't think the Laguna seats will be going in Bench seat right across!

We've got this going in place of the naff ply wood on it at the minute

Hinges on the end for easy access to the rear.

Also, we thought about lowering it. Not sure if it'll be a good idea. We cut the rear springs today,

If it looks decent, we'll buy lowering springs and if it turns out sh!t, we'll buy springs from a scrappie. Or maybe raise it?

Set of sporting alloys to go on soon too. Open to suggestions of colours for the respray too.

So overall I'm a little disappointed about today. Mainly because I had a picture of it planned in my head and its not what I'm expecting. I'm praying it turns out good in the end Its just more money being spent when we could have made the springs fit with a couple of hours work.

Also, most likely not going to be any work being done tomorrow or Wednesday as we've a bit of important stuff to get done on other things

at this point, I myself would walk away... These 2 mates whoever they are have ruined it already... To me over keen-ness has just destroyed a cento for no reason but i hope it does get finished in some form or another.

When you say it doesn't fit i assume you didn't weld in any braces before you cut the back off??

As Blu said compared to Dan dawson who build the cinq pick up they put so much more braceing in , And i think with you putting the Wood on the back has ruined in IMO.. as it just looks like some one has just thew it together .. BUT congrats on giveing it a go . And carry on doing it

I don't understand why you didn't do what the other pickup conversions did and use the bootdoor instead of a wooden back, you would have had a window.

Fair play for doing it and finished product should be good!

I paid for most of it, the other two lads chipped in a little and I'm getting free use of a workshop with ramp etc so I won't be putting the foot down yet

Yes they have ruined it but we're going to solider on! Maybe we can make something good of it, if not then I don't give a toss tbh, the car was mega cheap and it hasn't cost us anything yet so what we'd lose isn't worth crying over.

No we didn't weld any braces. Its permanently off the road now and will just be used for show.

The wood won't be staying there. We'll fill that gap with a sheet of metal or something and have it sprayed like the rest of the car.

The bootlid was fecked anyway and no use. The bottom end of it was all pulled outwards.

No work done today lads as they were busy with other things in the garage

Work will resume tomorrow though!

Well in kidda, how much have you done in a short time? well done.

I'd love to do a flat bed one with the rear arches and bed checker plated and wood lined, deffo extended with bull bars on the front!!!

Sure we all learn from out mistakes! It'll only ever be used for advertising i.e - never on the road again so were concentrating on looks more than anything.

We're aiming to get this done and sprayed before Christmas!

There'll be a new project around Jan/Feb '13 though! A Cinq, rather than a Sei because the square shape to them works much better than the rounded one of the Sei. Or maybe an old Volvo estate, 840 or something.

Nothing else going on tomorrow so have all day to work on this

All comments/criticism always much appreciated.

Still open to suggestions on the colour!

End of the boot lid is all pulled out, like someone hit the inside with a hammer or something. Really no use. Design doesn't help either but we could have made it fit if the bottom part wasn't damaged.
