Looking for a new tower and have lost touch with the pc world for a few years so this is all new to me

I want a dual core processor (as these can handle more goings on with the computer???) and have been offer and intel pentium e5200 2.5ghz one

the other one is an and athlon 5200

Which one is better and if you can be bothered can you explain why please do so.

Thanks (y)

The intel will be faster, it is a newer processor than the AMD so it has better architecture, it will also overclock much better than the AMD.

Most people don't overclock though. Both will be good. Are you not paying, as you'll need a motherboard as well, and RAM, and a graphics card, and SATA disks if you don't already have them.

and the forum recomendation balance is restored ;)

:D
Lol.

I thought that as I was typing it actually! :D

(who are you out of interest? You can PM me if you don't want to say it publicly)

Ok ive had a look at the website and its gone straight over my head

Havent got a clue what overclocking is

Ive been to a pc builder and they are going to build on with that pentium dual core - 200gb hd - 2gb of ram - and some other bits

Does this sound ok? or would you upgrade the processor or what? im big on multi tasking but dont play games or download.

Many thanks for the advice so far

Dont link to competitors!!

Oh wait... wrong forum :D
Carry on.

Overclocking means changing the bios settings so that the processor works faster than it is sold at. As long as yo have good cooling, you can have a stable, faster PC, for free :)

Overclocks depend on lots of high quality components - it's not something I'd reccomend to most people, especially if something fails and your warranty is then kerput.

Never been keen on PC builds (even if it used to be my trade)

Best bet is pick up a (cheapish) system from say ebuyer.co.uk and also buy a 2nd SATA drive and then get someone to configure a RAID system (costs a bomb to buy one ready made). That way you at least maintain reliable data and only have to worry about downloading Trojans and other rubbish.

Biggest problem is finding something without Vista :yuck:
