Hi all, I'm in desperate need of advise from people who actually know what they're talking about.

Ill give a brief description of the problems that im having:

  • Car intermittently momentarily loses power, almost like a misfire, this can happen at any point through the rev range but is more noticeable at lower revs
  • 3 or 4 times the car has lost power altogether and will not rev, however I figured out that if I dip the clutch and plant my foot on the accelerator that the revs will rise very slowly until it hits between 3.5k and 4k revs and the power comes back, the car then drives as it usually does.
  • Very little power at all until around 2k revs, where im assuming the turbo cuts in?
  • Fuel consumption has gone down from an average of 44.5MPG over the last 9 months, to about 39MPG over the last 2-3 months
What I have tried/done:

  • EGR valve cleaned and pipes checked (following the excellent guides on here) and it made no difference
  • EGR valve replaced - no difference
  • Fuel and air filters replaced - no difference
  • Codes read by friends machine - no faults recorded
  • Codes read by FIAT - no faults recorded (Mechanic said change the EGR valve, when I pointed out that it had already been changed he just shrugged and said "Dunno then mate"
  • No warning lights/messages on dash and there haven't been prior to this either
So, where do I go from here before I trade it in for an astra estate :D

check overboost valve
check map valve (you can clean it)
check whole pipes

and finnaly change your mehanic

Newbie mechanics and their fault readers... sometimes faults cannot be diagnosed by a computer, you have to find an experienced mechanic.
It can be anything from electronics (such as the gas pedal) to a simple fuel pump malfunction or something clogging a pipe somewhere.

did you have the turbo checked?
the entire fuel system should be check too.

Hi,

I thought I would report back with an update.

In the end it was either the MAP sensor, or the already replaced EGR valve...I cant say which because I just bit the bullet and bought new ones of each and fitted both at the same time.

Anyways, happy days....have done 300+ miles over the last few days and its running brilliantly and returning just shy of 46mpg.

Thanks for the advice fellas.
