On our way back from Birmingham I stopped for a short time in a layby. When I came to leave I couldn't select a gear, if I turned the engine off all gears we're available & I could start it in gear, once started I couldn't then get it out of gear. The clutch wasn't dragging at all as starting it in gear with the handbrake off didn't cause it to pull & if I let the clutch out it would pull away but not let me change gear. I tried this several times in different gears but always the same, it was as though something was misaligned, I couldn't hear any grating trying to even crash the gears in without the clutch. After about 10-15 mins trying I was on the verge of calling the breakdown then all of a sudden they were working again. To make sure I could at least get some speed I waited for a good gap & pulled away in 3rd gear, the gear box then behaved normally after that with the gears all nice & easy to select. I have had this happen twice before but this was after the van standing for a month or more so I put it down to lack of use as it cleared quickly after a couple of attempts. Anybody any clue to what can be happening?
Our van is a 2009 3 litre on a Rapido motorhome with around 35k miles on the clock. The clutch, flywheel etc. was all replaced about 18 months ago at the dealers expense under warranty.
