I've got a problem with my windscreen washers (front and rear) at the moment. When I try to use them nothing happens! I can hear a noise (like they're trying to work), and until recently some of the washer fluid did leak out from the side of the bonnet only.

I'm guessing that there's a problem somewhere in the tubing - but because the rear washers aren't working either, could this be a big (and expensive) problem??

Anyone got any ideas on what it is or how much its going to cost to fix?

what car MYM?

could be only a few things since both arnt working,,,,

can you get to the pump?

if so remove it (depending on fitments) they either side onto a spigot or pull off at 90 degrees to the bottle in either case there is a rubber diaphragm/ seal this often incorporates a filter made of perforated rubber take this out and clean it there is often a build up if you have used something like washing up liquid as opposed to proper screen wash... once clean try again....

if water comes out problem solved if not

remove the pipes that are connected to the pump and try the screen wash again and have a friend to see if water fires out (make a note of the pipes location) if it doesn't work still

its the valve in the pump that needs either cleaning or buy a new pump (halfords stock the most common ones)

if water comes out with the pipes off check the jets for blockages with a pin and check the hoses arnt kinked/ broken/ or fallen off the jets..

I had a prob the front ones on my Punto when I got it last year. Dunno if your motor is a Punto, but here goes anyway!!

You can see the 2 pumps under the bonnet going to the washers, I took these away from the wipers, and straightened any kinks in the hoses and checked the jets with a pin/needle to make sure mud or dust hadnt clogged it. Was sorted in about 10 mins. If there are kinks in the pumps you might have to be patient to get a full blast of water... depends how the cable sits and if it keeps getting that kink!!

It'd investigate at Halfords like Andy Monty suggested, even for a wee bit of advice, they might've seen the problem before.

Thanks for the advice. And forgot to say before - my car's a Brava.
