I am after some advise. I recently bought a second hand fiat seicento and since I have had it the fuel injection light comes on intermittently. The car looses power and feels like it will cut out, however if I slow down or change gear power sometimes returns to normal. Also the car is stalling when I come to a junction (even if coasting). I brought the car to the fiat dealer and they say the ECU is not communicationg with their diagnostic computers. The man said it could be because I am driving with the master key (I was only given this key from the previous owner) or the ECU is broken. I have ordered new keys now. He also said my clutch was biting high which was causing the stalling however I am not convinced as my father is a mechanic and he feels the clutch is fine. Any help or any idea what is causing these problem so I can point my father in the right direction (Don't really want to fork out for new ECU if not needed). Thanks

It sounds like a sensor is playing up. It could be the 02 sensor, or MAP, both of which are known to fail. But others have also been implicated.

I think you need to find an independant with a diagnostic tool to get the correct answer, rather than just change parts.

can be a simple case of cleaning the filter etc, checking the leads, problem i'bve had with my Seicento, other mecanhics cudn't find and it wasn't until i checked the filters and HT leads, that i realised that i fixed it,

I have been searching for help on this problem myself for ages, and found out by trial and error. It started by the light coming on the dashboard which I didnt know what it was at first but when it went out I ignored it and thought nothing of it until it started to gradually get worse by the light coming on more often and found out it was the injection light.

It ended up stalling at junctions (traffic lights and roundabouts) which is quite scary as I never knew it was going to do it!! The light came on and off intermittently sometimes even bumps caused it!!
But it got to the point where i had to sit in traffic at rush hour revving just so it wouldnt stall on me and the light was on all the way home the one day so it HAD to be sorted!!

I had searched online and found out a few things to change to see if that helped to solve the problem. Certain people found these worked but didn't for me but to be honest it didnt do my car any harm as alot of these were disgusting !!!

I replaced ......
* fuel filter (which is under the car)
* throttlebody
* lambda sensor
* crank sensor
* spark plugs and ignition leads

Still to find my seicento s playing up!!

Eventually I found somebody actually interested in plugging my car in and reading it!! And he told me straight away it was my MAP sensor or as my local Fiat Dealership called it a throttle sending unit. And they wanted £112 for it !! I bought one made by Fuel Parts which made my car worse so rang the bloke who read my car back up and he said not to use that make so I ordered it from somewhere else but got it for £54 !! And that solved it immediatly for me !! :)

Hope this helps !!!

Sorry I didnt know it was 4 YEARS ago !!! As I am new to this forum site and plus she hasn't even replied to say its been solved (really helpful to others !!) So anyone new who wants to know whats wrong with their seicento, then they havent got a clue because other people have written allsorts when I KNOW how mine was solved. Cars don't always break down at the same time as everyone elses because otherwise I would have fixed mine 4 years ago ! Then again probably not because nothing on here has worked on mine. So a great welcome to me, THANKS

Hi
again rising from the dead, my little one a .9 seicento [2000 model] stalling when on tick over, i have replaced map, temp [both], lambda, crankshaft, the two on the throttle body sensors, as well as new fuel filter and the two coils and a new fuel pump, i have upped the tickover, cleared the ecu, and i still cant track down the problem, sometimes when driving the injector light comes on and the engine cuts out, this lasts for a few seconds and then restarts and all feel fine, i am now of a mind to sell this one and buy another one, this problem is intermintent. is there any body who can point me in the right direction.

Hi Thanks and sunny greetings from Margate, I have changed the TDC sensor twice and still the same, could it be the single point injector?? I have done the vaccum leak test [ sprayed around all pipes with brake cleaner] and revs didnt move an inch, checked all pipes and all good, there must be someone on here who can suggest other things to try or even someone who has cured this problem. can the ECU on a .9 be read, if it can where is the plug??

I wonder how many TDC sensors have been replaced when the fault actually lay with the connector that joins it to the wiring harness. I disturbed this connector while cleaning up harnesses etc and introduced all the symptoms described above including my first ever breakdown in 12 years. Eventually I cut the faulty connector out and wired the TDC sensor into the harness. Problems instantly solved. Interestingly the error code was not stored for this although I could see it failing the phonic wheel test when running ecuscan and the rev counter dropping to zero as the engine cut in and out.

Id only disturb the TDC connector in extremis, if you use electrical contact cleaner from maplins and silicon grease that should be enough. If you swap the TDC sensor don't throw the old one away.

disturbing the ECU multi way connector even more risky.

Hi

I have replaced the TDC as well, although it ran much better and smoother with the new one the problem still occurs, I took it out for a motorway run for 10 miles or so, no problem, but as soon as i hit town, the first red traffic lights, waiting for approx 60 seconds, the injector light came on and engine stopped, re started no problem, this happend all through the day, so no problem on high speed, does any body want to buy this lovely seicento, even if its to play with it, it has mot and tax, it does have a hole in the rear exuast box, i have orderd a new box and will be fitting it before i sell it, is it possible the back pressure is going screwy to the lambda sensor?? because the back box has a hole in it.
I am well and truly beaten on this one????????????????

kindest regards

Kapo

Hi there all you techno heads, I have now replaced the exhust back pipe and silencer, went for a spin but when it came to tickover it stayed ok for 3-4 minutes then died, restarting was not a problem, so this problem still persists, someone out there must give me a clue where to look and cure.........

Did you look at the Throttle Position Sensor, as rallycinq suggests?

Although it's a Cinq, all the nominal values (most of which can be tested with a cheap and cheerful multimeter) are in the first parts of the ginormous Seicento Technical Manual (free to download in the Downloads Library).

Rallycinq is to Centos as Einstein is to Physics (but with a different hairstyle).

Or if you can pick up a throttle body cheap, you might just swap it over.
