I have just fitted some mk1 HGT alloys to my 1.4 SX, they fit fine obviously, everything seemed fine, but when I drive it and let off the accelerator, something makes a loud whurring noise, like I can here something rotating, but it sounds really dodgy. If I have my foot on the accelerator or brake the noise goes away.

Any ideas what it may be cuz I'm worried its something bad. Sorry if I haven't been very descriptive.

check ur wheel bearings

Have you fitted the alloy wheel nuts fit supply for cars fitted with alloys as standard?

Check the wheel nuts are tight on.

Check that the bolts you have fitted aint too long and rubbing on the front hubs or rear internals of the brake mechanisms. Only a few mill and it'll start hitting things.

Slightly off topic. This may sound daft but on my old 115 16V HLX i fitted MK2 HGT alloys and on full lock they caught the inner trim, strange but true. The tyres where 195/55/15. The HLX is 185/55/15.

I got the wheels from Paul R, he gave me a big bag of 16 nuts, including wheel locking nuts, and 4 shiny ones that looked the same, I put a shiny one on each wheel thinking they would look better, but maybe these are a different length. I'll have to ask Paul.

soz i havent replied to you text.. i ashume they are the same length.. there is only one way to know...check...

they are all the nuts for a hgt, maybe you need different ones for yours???

Hpe you sort it out m8...

does anyone know if nuts from a HGT will fit a 1.4 sx??

I have hgt bolts on my 1.6 they are fine

it will be a wheel bearing

the reason for it persenting now is the new wheels are heavier so they put more stress on the bearings causung the noise replacements shouldnt cost you no nore than £20-30 fitted

i had the exact same sound when i put my alloys on, it was because the nuts had loosened themselves, the sound stopped when i broke or accellerated. you have to jack the car up in gear and tighted the nuts up fully and chck them after another 100 miles, they take a while to settle apparently.

I am 20 miles from my house, will it be safe to drive home for 20 miles??

Why are the bearings making a noise, what is happening??

How do I check if they need replacing?? Is that £30 for all four, or per wheel?

Can anyone answer my questions?? I need to know if it's safe to drive?

it should be ok to drive as long as you dont go too fast or turn corners too quick

dont worry if a bearing properly goes ur wheel wont fall off! it will just grind you to a rather noisy stop but by then it will b really loud b4 hand so you would stop anyway!

thay havent gone they are just worn!

but i would make sure u check ur wheel nuts! just put ur bar on them and see how easy one or two loosen off you dont need jack the car up!

Cheers for the advice ash! BTW my bravo's same colour as yours, I love that colour.

It could be you've got them on the wrong side and the rotation is wrong on the tyre
