Priory Fiat in Cambridge

I bet they haven't done anything as well. When I last went there they reckoned they'd changed my diesel fuel filter and checked my cabriolet hood mechanism on the check sheet. Not bad for a petrol HGT.....

specs78 - how did the service go? did you manage to hand back the Panda?!

Everything went great Ems. DBS were great, they did everything I asked. The techie that I spoke to (Mark) was excellent, he treated me like a friend. We had a laugh and a joke about the car, and he sat down with me for 10 minutes and went through everything they had done.

I told him about Priory (The story about 128v and his probs) and he just stared at me with his mouth open! They even said that they will change the pads for uprated ones at a discounted rate! Thanks again for telling me about them mate!

P.S. I did managed to give the Panda back. I don't know what came over me!

Well, those Prioy tossers get even better.

Surprised they didnt actually change the other drive shaft and charged me for it today, but they said the drive shaft wasnt the problem and infact it was the differential in the gearbox its self, so i now require a new gearbox which is not covered by the warranty.

A new gearbox including vat and fitting is £973. 80 to be exact, and i told them not to bother, but instead i will collect the car on saturday.

The plan is now i have run around a few gearbox places and i have had a quote from the gearbox centre in Gt Yarnmouth and they quoted £495 including fitting but plus VAT for fitting a brand new gearbox all in a day for me. I can claim the VAT back of that through my fathers company so thats a bit of relief.

I am going to pick my fiat up from priory on saturday and then take it on a trailer to yarnmouth to get the gearbox fitted.

I am planning on selling it now as the 3 months warranty is up, just as it has had a new gearbox and drive shaft fitted.

Will keep you posted on those fiat tossers any hows, and when i asked them to prove that the driveshaft was gone, they just said it came out in bits so they chucked them away, leaving me with not a leg to stand on.

128v - my god what a load of cr@p that's happened to you! It may be a bit late but can you ask Priory to show you the new drive shaft that they've fitted - as you've only driven about 30m in it you'd be able to tell if they've actually changed it and it looks sparkling new.

specs - glad to hear everything went OK at DBS, I would have looked silly if you'd have received bad service! (y)

Maybe an obvious line, but Trading Standards may take more than a passing interest. Also an AA or RAC inspection, or reputable mechanic to look to see if new parts have indeed been fitted. If not then TS WILL be interested.

Failing that, can of petrol and a match should keep their workshop warm (y)

Definitely, they surely can't charge you for a new driveshaft when the problem hasn't been solved - that was their fault for giving a cr*ppy diagnosis. Grrr, garages make me angry!

So what exactly is covered on the warranty?? Ask them to list components and DEMAND for your money back for the "driveshaft" that was not needed!! (n) W**kers! Don't let them take you for a ride!

Also in future if they blame your mods for any faulty component, ask them to put it in writting how exactly your mods have caused the component to break. ;)

Well fellas,

When i am going to pick the car up on saturday i will have a look to see if the driveshaft has actually been replaced and also i am intending to have an aa/rac check just to be sure.

They sounded a bit disappointed about me not wanting them to replace my gearbox for £950 and going somewhere else for £400!

I have got them to write me a letter as to wats covered in the warrenty, espically the engine, and they said that if the car was to do a head gasket, they would not come back to me and say that as i have had the gearbox replaced by a non fiat dealer and so the head gasket would not be under warrenty. They said yes the engine, would still be covered under the warrenty, and i said, could i have that as written evidence, and they asked me why, and i said its because i dont trust fiat, and so he agreed to get the warrenty in writing and i am due to pick that document up on saturday.

Will keep you posted!!

John,

I know this is not much help now, but there are a number of companies offering third part warranties on cars. I have just bought a Stilo Abarth and got a 3 year RAC Gold warranty that covers 95% of parts. It also lets you top up for things like ABS and aircon, which aren't covered in the standard price. There must be a few others out there that can offer a warranty as well. All it usually needs is an inspection by a garage prior to granting the warranty.

What I find criminal is that you don't have a document detailing what is covered and what you need to do to keep the warranty valid. In my case I have a double page spread annotated on a car diagram that lists all the bits covered and I know that I have to have at least an oil change, fluids check and cam belt check every 6 month or 6000 miles by a VAT registerd garage (and not the FIAT monkeys) to keep the warranty up.

Good luck (and keep that can of petrol handy ;) )

Keep us posted as to what happens though, I have my fingers crossed :)

Hi Guys,

you really should see what the garages are in Greece. It's more like to find better services in a non-European country than Greece.
I'll tell you only one thing: Noone uses the unnoffical garages, everyone prefers to pay more and go to FIAT Service rather play with his luck on the highway.

I own a Hyundai Matrix 1.6 140PS and believe it or not, even a Korean Car has better services available at Hyundai Official Car Service. They even installed me a TURBO!!! (y)
I know that the warranty for the engine is no longer available but the at least they knew what to touch when doing such important "surgeries"!

Anyway now i am thinking of buying a FIAT Bravo? Should I?
