Printing MS Publisher file - A3 colour poster

Quicky question here. I'm designing an A3 poster in Microsoft Publisher for a university assignment due in next Monday. I've just rung the Reprographics department to get confirmation that they can print out Publisher files in A3 and got the Uni idiot on the phone. "I dunno mate, I just stick the pen drive in and open up the file. If it prints it prints, otherwise I dunno". :bang: I also rang up the IT department who confirmed that yes, the University does have Publisher on the machines but still couldn't confirm whether they can print out the file in A3 format. :bang:

So just to be on the safe side, can anyone confirm whether places like Prontaprint or other printers can print out single A3 posters in colour? How much would they charge for a single A3 print?

Also, can anyone confirm that A3 is 42cm x 29.7cm as publisher didn't have A3 in its templates?

cant you embed everthing and save as a PDF and print in A3 that way?

I used adobe illustrator to do my poster at uni but i was printing on A1. had to save it as a PDF for the printing shop to do it

I already used Google to get the dimensions mentioned in post #1 Just wanted confirmation from those in the know!

'Tis only a simple poster. Would most high street print shops be able to print out from a Publisher file?

Most printing places ive been to prefer PDF or such files, they say its because of software, i say its because there awkward........... lol

PDF reader is readilly available

and most printers use macs (well the ones i use anyways!)

Why is having it in .PDF format awkward....

If I don't want to print something out as a hard-copy, then I always save it as a .pdf file. Plus easy for my clients to open and read.
