has anyone had a powerflow fitted to a 18hlx? i was thinking about having two back boxes, one on either side but one company said i would have to have my spare wheel well removed!!!, another said they were unsure whether or not the petrol tank would get in the way?

exhausts

I spoke to Powerflow about this (an exahust either side) in Southampton.

They told me that it could be done for around £500. on my HGT, but said that it's quite difficult and only one of the tailpipes would be functional.
i.e. the second pipe on the drivers side of the car would be a dummy.

They said they could make both functional for around another £150. but the passenger side pipe would be more functional than the drivers side, as there would be a shorter distance for the gases to travel on that side.
So on a cold morning when the exhaust smokes the pipes wouldn't look equal. More smoke would come out of the passenger side pipe.

Would look good though on a warm day!!

If you could get them positioned bang under the circular rear reflectors that would look good. Let us all know what you decide.

Unfortunatley Powerflow will not fit a tail pipe to a Bravo on either side due to the plastic petrol tank.

Basically It would melt and well...... I would imagine cause an explosion!!! You could probably find another company who will do it but they may make you sign some sort of "we'll do it but its nothing to do with us" style contract.

I had mine fitted 2 weeks ago and I actually wanted two exhausts. In the end I settled for 2 3/4" oval tail pipes and even though that was my second choice I was still very happy with them.

This is the the main number for the UK its southern based but they'll tell you where your nearest Powerflow franchise is. I went to the Doncaster (Topgear Performance) one as I had heard some real horror stories about the franchise in Leeds (Alpha Tyres)

Re: Re: powerflow

Sorry I forgot to mention that Mine is a 100sx.

I thought about the dummy option for a bout 5 seconds..... Like Si says it would look poor to say the least on a cold day.

Hope thats Helps

re:ROB D

Hi Rob,

Can you just clear something up for me.

Are you saying that Powerflow were happy to make the single pipe, rather than the twin exit,
or did they make you sign the disclaimer for the single exit as well?

Do you know if this is the same for other companies such as Magnex, currently my most prefered option?

Rob D I know that place, one of my mates cousin owns it! You seen his evo and his FTO? And does anybody know if it is possible to have an exhaust downt he centre? OR to be even more different, side exit stylee?

cheers :)

Re: re:ROB D

Si,
I actually wanted to have two exit pipes coming out of either side of my Bravo. So I would have one 3 and 3/4" tail pipe coming out under each reflector.
Like below. this is sort of how I wanted it.

Powerflow wouldn't do this for me as the petrol tank is situated too close to where the second pipe would run on the right. Although there is enough room to do it........

Thats what I was saying about the disclaimer. You may be able to find a dogy backstreet exhaust fitter who would do it for you. How ever you would melt the petrol tank....... I've looked seriously in to this as well. Law exhausts in Leeds wouldn't do it either. Its only when your car is on the stands you realise how little room there is for the pipe to go.

This is what I had done. (twin tail pipe)

That is a twin tail pipe. The above is twin exit tail pipes.

Hope that all make sense I'll send you some picture if you give me your mail address..

Re: Re: re:ROB D

I knew it wouldn't come out right!!!!! Do you know what I mean though Si?

Re: sadasd

Bren,

His name is Paul and he's a really nice guy really helpful. as were allthe engineers who fitted the exhaust. I really enjoyed going up there with one of my friends to have the exhaust done.

And yes I did see his Evo. Very nice and Pushing some serious horse power out too.
He also said that He was going to get a rolling road set up and move in to seriuos performace tuning.

As far as the center exit pipe go's. Afer looking at the petrol tank position...... It may be possible but I doubt it. As the Petrol Tank dose take a fair amount of space up..... Still may be worth looking in to.

Let me know how you get on.

RE: Dual exit Powerflow

I also wanted a dual exit exhaust for my 1.8 HLX, but again I was told that it would be too close to the petrol tank and therefore not a very good idea. I went for a twin oval exhaust in the end and I am very pleased with it. The only slight problem I have with it is that it isn`t loud enough. It replaced my old original system and has 3 silencers on it. I was just wondering if anyone else has one fitted on their HLX with a fewer number of silencers!

exhausts

Hi Rob D,

Yeah don't worry that made sense to me.

Think i'm going to go for a Magnes exhaust though as i'm a little worried about some of the Powerflow stories i've heard, although you seem to be very happy with yours.

Think i'd just rather go to a place that has tested a system on the car and then designed it specifically for the best power and torque gains on that car.

FAO si

In revs this month there is a test of a few makes of exhausts, the test is done on an XR2i but gives a general idea. Thought u may be interested :)

Re: exhausts

Initially I was going to go to the Leeds Powerflow franchise (Alpha Tyres) who I'm informed are exellent with tyres but shocking with exhausts. I went down there and spoke the boss who came across very nicely. I waited around for a bit. Checked out the garage etc. It was in a real poor state compared to the Doncaster branch. eg. A complete tip no waiting room. used Exhausts and tyres all over the shop.

As far as the horror stories go, basically about 10 lads I know most of them 24+ so not younger lads who some times get palmed off because they are young. Things like the exhaust fell off then every time he phoned up he would say "oh you cant come in this weekend as your tail pipe hasn't arrived". 3 guys booked the day off work went down to the garage where they waited around for a while only to be told that he couldn't fit the in today.......

I also know other people who were happy with the job they had done so its not all bad I just did'nt want take any chances.

Re: FAO si

Yes I Saw the issue you were talking about Bren. It was a red XR2i wasn't it. The scorpion got the highest overall score.

I know a few lads who've got Scorpion exhausts and they sound Fantastic and also added some good mid range tourqe. I would have liked a Scorpion Exhaust but I liked the idea of powerflow actualy making the exhaust to my specifications (with advice from them aswell).

Cheers

thanks Bren

I've also seen that issue of Revs, it seems to be a regular feature of theirs, they run it about every 6 months, each time with a different car.
In the past they've used a Focus, 206 and a Saxo.

For those that havent seen the article they test around 8-10 different exhaust's on BHP gains, torque gains and ease of fitting.
Unfortunately they don't cover any companies such as Powerflow, as obviously you could get a different exhaust depending on which of their dealers you went to.
