Hey chaps.

Just spent 5 hours putting the 'new' air-con compressor on my 2.4jtd to get rid of the grating noise the garage said it was and....... the noise is still there! :(

Sooo, after a long look around (and listening session) I have come to the conclusion it is either the top tensioner or power steering pump bearings.

anywayz,
Are the power steering pumps the same on all brav's/marea's as I have looked in the marea manual and it doesn't say..?

thanks in advance guys

Darren

Replace the tensioner as its the cheapest out of the two. Then if the noise persists carry on, on your mission for silence. :)

yeah, i'm going to chap.

Any ideas on if I will need specific tensioners for 2.4? or will tensioners from say a 1.9jtd work?

I'm guessing it's gonna be a case of going to the scrappy and looking.

anyone wanna buy a 2.4jtd air-con compressor? :)

Darren

anyone know if the pumps are the same as my local scrappy has a 1.9jtd in stock which I might go check out.

cheers

Darren

Check eper out on fiat forum. If the powersteering pump is the whole long unit that goes between the wheels then the same part number is for the 2.4TD and 2.4JTD only. But i'm assuming its not that. It'll be something spinning off the belts. If you give me the part number i can find out which cars have that part fitted. Alfa and Fiat.

will check in fiat manual in a bit.
:D

it is the bit which the aux belt goes around

OK,

I can't find a part number in the manual, but on the 1.9td version it shows how to replace just the bearings without taking the pump off???

I might have a go at that but as I said it shows roughly where the pump is and how to removeit.

1 other question if I'm looking at the aux tensioners etc..

this bit circled in red..

is tight, but when the engine is running it bounces around like 'jingling' is this normal for this bit?

Think I'm just gonna have a play at some stage but gettin gthe belt back on was horrible, almost snapped the bugger.

I loosened the bottom tensioner but still wasnt loose enough to put belt on. HHad to put the car in 5th and try turning the wheel under compression to slide the wheel back on, any ideas on replacing the belt a bit more easily?

sorryfor all the questions, just wanna get the noise sorted.

cheers chaps
