Hi I have raised this on a previous post but is still causing problems so I thought I would try a separate post. I have owned this grande punto 2007 1.2 for about 6 weeks now and has been a total pain, the power steering fails on start up and the battery light is lit when this happens, it doesn't happen every time my be 1 in 10. I have replaced the battery, had the alternator reconditioned, tested the charging voltage on full load, load tested the signal cable from alternator to ecu. Everything seems fine but obviously it's not.

Any one got any idea what to do next?

It'd be worth getting earthing points check, but it still sounds ultimately like an alternator fault.

Why did you need to get the alternator reconditioned originally? And was it reconditioned using OEM parts, or did you get supplied with a reconditioned alternator and have to send back the old unit? If the latter then it's likely tonot have been done using OEM parts and there is a fair record of issues on Fiats not liking cheaper reconditioned alternators due to voltage issues they can cause.

Hi thanks for your reply. The reason for me getting the alternator reconditioned was after I changed the battery this was next on the list. It was done at a local specialist alternator and starter motor work shop (where a old wise man has worked for years) the brushes and regulator was replaced, I would think it was not genuine fiat parts the were used. When testing this on the car the voltage is constant and steady even when the battery light is lit.
