Hello all, can anyone assist with the following. It seems that the fluid is getting into the gaters in the steering rack. I've been told the seals have gone. Is it a hard job to replace and where would be the best place to get another rack from?? Car is a 18 ELX Marea. Thanks in anticipation. Mint

same thing happened on mine ,was told they dont supply the seals seperate so had to buy a reconditioned full steering rack, £235 supplied and fitted was the best price I got in Glasgow and , yes, it is a hard job to do,3 hours min if you know exactly the bits to undo first before even trying the rack.

getting access and rusty nuts (how rude) is what makes this job difficult, and it will take a few hours :( i suggest you get to a scrapyard and remove the steering rack from a scrap car. i'm not sure if all models use the same rack (think differences were purely pump but not sure) so get one from a 1.8 to make sure. should cost £20 if you remove it yourself, and i suggest you do to practice the job before you butcher your own car.
