Hi all, just joined. We are experiencing a problem with the Fiat Multipla 02 plate. About 2 months ago it started losing pewer. My wife did not mention straight away...took for MOT and ane then it was mentioned, I got it seviced £200. They said it was Turbo!! Thought that would be expensive so took to a diesel specialist who hooked computer and said it's MAS to arranged to have it changed - £186 with labour. Still having the problem - Power loss, no revs then picks up with plume of black smoke out of exhust - took back to specialsist, it was booked to have a new crankshaft pully, belt damper fitted but said would rather get it fixed for original problem. We discussed the EGR and after leaving it with them hooked to PC they explained that they could order the part and if it was EGR then would refund other MAS cost. I had the crankshaft work done and now the car seems to drive normally. I want to know would the crankshaft give the follwoing problems - prior to the work the engine had a throaty sound like a tractor but the car would 'Stall, lose of power - revs, black smoke as if car was chocked to get right mix of air and fuel - anyone one had similar probs and if cranckshaft gives same type of probs as MAS and EGR. Sorry this is long but trying to see if worth taking in on Thursday week for the EGR of leaving and getting refund for MAS as the crankshaft may have done the trick - the meilage by the way is on 62000 and had car from new. Your help is appriciated.

I had the same problem with my JTD Multipla, after various work being carried out that never seemed to resolve the problem it was found to be the EGR valve.

why not take it to official dealer who have 1.9 diesel service news diagnostic procedures...one hours labour will of pinpointed the fault (£40-55) + parts.

I would of blanked off the EGR straight away (5 minutes).

hi T14086, please can you explain how i can block off egr?, what sort of plate to use etc. is it permanent fix, ie will not harm car. thank you. mark

penny to the pound its your egr valve, if you have had car from new and now have 62,000 miles on clock without changing egr, i guarantee you it will be rammed full of soot. search on here for how to take off and clean egr...bitch of a job (awkward to remove), but wont cost you a penny and your car will have a new lease of life :)
