Hi, have been driving my second hand Ulysse for a few weeks now and noticed the engine power seems to come in "waves", instead of progressively... This is more noticeable in 4th and 5th gear and higher speeds, when still accelerating.
Also, the engine has a brutal lack of power under 2,000 rev so when for instance coming up on a steep hill in 3rd and having to gear down to 2nd, if the revs fall under the 2,000 its a real struggle...
Any comments/ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Check the usual air and fuel filters are clean. Could also be the maf sensor coated in grime.
Easy to clean with meth spray and cotton buds once you take it off from the air box hose, jubliee clips each side.

You could also pour a bottle of injector cleaner into the fuel tank or direct into the fuel filter housing to clean the injectors out.

Remember these buses are heavy and do not respond like a saloon diesel the low rev power is more for torque than accelleration.

Good luck
Pete

Something as simple as changing the air filter can make a huge difference, it did with mine.

Many thank for your answers, much appreciated. I will certainly give it a go and will post the results for future reference.
Kind regards, Pedro

hi,
can any one help i have the same problem as this one. you hit 50mph in 4th gear going in to 5th gear it takes all day to hit 70mph.
the same 2nd to 3rd if the rev drop it dies
please can you help

Do the usual checks first as above.

I found in my car that the intercooler pipework had a leak, well the plastic tunnel under the engine was cracked along the seam.
Once I sealed this, the car suddenly found a herd of horses from somewhere along with better fuel economy.

Get some one to rev the engine high and put your hand under the center section of the engine and feel if you get a jet of air blowing against it.

Pete
